Default Surfs Up - LIVE (well as close to it as anyone will get)

BBC1 radio broadcast in 1985. very hissy. But it has differences from the US and UK mixes. has some actual live vocals by meat during the guitar solo.

wonder if it was broadcast on TV

YouTube Video

To my ear those "live vocals" are some audio bleed from the other side of the audio casstte this recording came from. I've got a few cassettes from that era which have the same effect on them.

How confident are you that this recording came from Radio 1? I had Radio 1 on almost constantly in those days and would have remembered hearing Surf's Up I'm sure

im not 100% confident. the guy who sent it to me said BBC1. I wonder though, what interesting things of meats did you hear while listening to radio 1?

from what I hear Meat say once the guitar solo kicks in "ooh so am I" so i dunno.

I didn't hear jack shit except for the American studio version on a hissy old tape with some audience sounds mixed through it, hardly radio material.

it sounds he's singing something completely different during that solo so not sure it's 'live'

There is no reason why BBC Radio 1 would play that song in 1985, Meat had finished his promo for Bad attitude in the UK by then, from what I recall all of the radio stuff was done in Oct/Nov '84 prior to the album release and the start of the tour. The only Radio broadcast I remember was the live show from Knebworth.

Thing is the mix itself is a tad different. Its the us version with the UK guitar solo.

Im gonna change the video info till I know exactly where its from.

awful or not, I'd like to hear it. It says it has been removed by user.

This was removed as it was sent to Wario as a joke and was not a real live recording as many of us suspected. Wario removed it himself and didn't post an explanation here as he was probably embarrassed about the whole thing. It was simply an old hissy version of the same song you have on a cd most likely. It sucked, you don't want to hear it I guarantee it.

Exactly. The guy duped me. It was the studio version that hissed and had crowd noise.

Not to fret though. if anyone would find an actual live recording of it i will. Everything else is genuine...
