Default SIngle releases that should have been

In light of the other recent thread, I figured Id take a look at each album, and note the weird ass logic of the record company.

Bat Out of Hell (1997): All singles were logical and sucessful, good job record company!

Bat Out of Hell
Took The Words
Two Out of THree
Paradise

Dead Ringer (1981): The title track was a success and the album surpassed 1 million units. Fantastic single choices, tho none charted well besides DRFL. Great job record company!

Im Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us
Readem and Weep
Dead Ringer
Readem and Weep
Peel Out

Midnight (1983): The record company again release the three most logical song choices. Three of the best songs on the album sands Wolf At Your Door (which wouldve been honestly a better single then if you Really Want to). But OK job record company.

Razor's Edge
Midnight
If You Really Want To

Bad Attitude (1984): Again logical logical choices, all of which I wouldve released. Wish they charted better, especially piece of the Action. That shouldve been an 80's anthem!

Modern Girl
Nowhere Fast
Surfs Up
Piece of the Action
Sailor to a Siren

Blind before I Stop (1986): this is where Im perplexed. RnR Mercenaries was a good lead of but... Getting Away With Murder? Really? Special Girl? Really? Say what you will about Masculine, it wouldve been a far better single and its cheesy and catchy. It may have been a sleeper hit! I still think with it being in the set longer then the rest of the songs, Masculine was Meat's first choice in single.

Rock & Roll Mercenaries
Getting Away With Murder
Blind before I Stop
Special Girl

Bat 2 (1993) and WTTN (1995): A sweep of utterly INGENIOUS single releases, all of which were logical and charted successfully except Redlight. nothing more needs to be said. Great Great great job MCA. You were the best for Meat.

AFL
Lemon
RRD
Objects
Lie For You
Not A Dry Eye
Redlight

CHSIB (2003): Logical song choices until Man Of Steel. Why Not Testify. That makes no sense! DIST was an amazing amazing single choice, I wish it gained more of a following

CHSIB
DIST
Man Of Steel

Bat 3 (2006): Ugh.... This was a disaster. IACBTMN was a good lead off but... CRY OVER ME? Come On! If they released Blind as a Bat, then Break It it wouldve been so much more successful. or ho about an edited down FUTURE. Jennifer Hutchison was HUGE in 2006! where was the logic?!

IACBTMN
Cry Over Me

HCTB (2010): This suffered from teh record company F'ing over the Los Angeloser release. THEN releasing IF I CANT HAVE YOu and PEACE ONE ARTH. WHY. If It Rains would have been HUGE and LA had a fun catchy video! Logic was not with them.

Los Angeloser (Kinda)
Peace on Earth
If i Cant have You

HIAHB (2012): No comment. this was just awful. i have no words. WHy All of me? Why... The Giving Tree was on this album. THE GIVING TREE.

All of Me

Where is All Revved Up?
Why is Read 'Em And Weep on there twice?
Why is Sailor To A Siren on there at all?
Where is Is Nothing Sacred?
Special Girl is better than Masculine. It is a crap song and would've made a crap single.
Why is there sand on Wolf At Your Door?
Who is Jennifer Hutchinson and why is she an edited ho?
This is all a PEACE of ARTH

Sailor to a Siren

is one of my favorite songs , It had the potential to be a big as John Denver's' Calypso . If Amnesty is granted was not listed it should have been .

Singles that could have been, IMO:

DEAD RINGER:
More than you deserve
Everything is permitted

MIDNIGHT:
The Promised Land
Fallen angel

BAD ATTITUDE:
Bad attitude
Don't leave your mark on me

BLIND BEFORE I STOP
Burning down
Standing on the outside
Rock and roll hero

BAT 2:
It just won't quit (!)
Out of the frying pan (And into the fire)

WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD:
Amnesty is granted
Where angels sing

COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER
Testify
Because of you

TMIL:
Blind as a bat (!)
Bad for good
The future ain't what it used to be (!)

HANG COOL TEDDY BEAR:
I have no idea...

HELL IN A HANDBASKET
Fall from grace
The giving tree
Live or die
California dreamin'
Stand in the storm

I liked All Of Me. It was just a shame that it didn't really get much promotion as a single.

I think the bootleg live version from Birmingham is the best version that Meat has ever done. To me BAT 3s version was ok but nothing to what I thought it was going to be when I first heard it was going to be on the album

Life is a Lemon was never a single. In fact the second single on Bat 2 was actually Bat out of Hell (if that makes sense!)

Lemon was a radio single. And how could BOOH been a single off of Bat 2 when it wasn't even included on it?

I know that it was re-released, but not as an album single.

"Bat Out Of Hell"
Bat Out Of Hell
Took The Words
Two Out Of Three
Paradise

Superb songs (especialy "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" - my mom's favorite ML song)!

"Dead Ringer"
I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us
Readem And Weep
Dead Ringer For Love
More Than You Deserve
Peel Out

Although vocally it's not the best Meat's album, but I like it very much. What's more - since that album, videos were finally more than good.

"Midnight At The Lost And Found"
Razor's Edge
Midnight
If You Really Want To

I would change only one song - instead of "Midnight" I would pick up "Wolf At Your Door".

"Bad Attitude"
Modern Girl
Nowhere Fast
Surf's Up
Piece Of The Action
Sailor To A Siren

Very good selection of the songs.

"Blind Before I Stop"
Rock & Roll Mercenaries
Getting Away With Murder
Blind Before I Stop
Special Girl

"Getting Away" and "Blind Before I Stop" are obvious choices (to me), but the rest ... If I decided, I would pick up: "Standing On The Outside" and "Masculine".

"Bat Out Of Hell 2" and "Welcome To The Neighborhood"
AFL
Lemon
RRD
Objects
Lie For You
Not A Dry Eye
Red Light

I wouldn't change anything.

"Couldn't Have Said It Better"
CHSIB
DIST
Man Of Steel

First - "Did I Say That" is my favorite Meat Loaf song (first position in my private ranking). Second - we can hear Pearl on "Man Of Steel". In other words - I wouldn't change singles from this album.

"Bat Out Of Hell 3"
IACBTMN
Cry Over Me

I agree with Wario - there should be "Future" insted of COM. Reason? Jennifer Hudson was on top in that time.

"Hang Cool Teddy Bear"
Los Angeloser
Peace On Earth
If I Can't Have You

Good song selection ... ok, ok - if I must, I would choose "Elvis In Vegas" instead of "Peace On Earth" ... I said: "if I must" .

"HIAHB"
All Of Me
Very good song (very deep emotional), so the choice was obvious.

=====

Only one thing disturbs me - there was no video from HIAHB. Why "disturbs"? I would like to see video (or videos) to the album "Braver Than We Are".
Singles selection from the new album? I believe in Meat's "good hand" .

Nor would I .. I think DIST is one of the best songs Meat has ever recorded .. but we're into the 2000s, and I think there's a significance in the time, and the shift in the business and the way playlists are decided and managed to a completely different demographic. To get CHSIB played by a snotty DJ in Sheffield Meat had to take up the challenge he set .. "If Meat himself phones in and asks, I'll play it .. otherwise forget it!" .. and after Meat DID that, they played it once, and refused to play it again. Incidentally they had to ask me in a panic when they knew he was phoning in if I had a copy as they "couldn't find" theirs .. imo the PR copies are sold on eBay immediately .. Meat just doesn't figure in local radio's playlists any more. They are decided by fatcat suits chasing a different demographic.

I liked Cry Over Me. Future might have had a better chance I guess, though perhaps more in the USA.

I agree .. a very strong song, and imo the absolute best to have a briad appeal. I love Giving Tree, but think it would have not had broad appeal. That AOM didn't have a great success is imo down to the playlist issues now.

I'd love to see a video as well. Comes down to whether the record company is prepared to put its hand in its pocket. The one for DIST was stunning, absolutely stunning .. but if you don't get on the playlists, videos don't seem to be set to recoup the money spent on them

I bet they weren't banking on Meat himself phoning in. I'd have loved to have seen their faces when he did.

It's a shame they only played it once and we know that had a group like One Direction recorded that song, it'd never be off the radio.

I'm not sure if I've ever seen that one, was it one of the ones included on the MSO DVD or am I getting confused?

Damn near lost their drawers! Particularly when they found they'd lost (I use the word in a very loose sense!) their promo copy. But the sad fact is that the suits choose the groups they believe fit their demographic

Another Bay special I believe .. beautiful and brilliant song, and stunning video

I still think that an edited version of 'Like A Rose' could have been a sleeper rock hit. Kind of like Cee-Lo Green's "F*ck You"

All of Me was the best choice. It fell nicely on the heels of the apprentice incident and was the perfect answer to it.
The next single could have been FALL FROM GRACE
