Default Virgin Records release 7" vinyl picture disc of AFL to mark their 40th anniversary

VIRGIN 40
Celebrating 40 years of Virgin music

A series of celebrations are taking place to mark the 40th anniversary of legendary label Virgin. A new exhibition 'Virgin Records: 40 Years of Disruptions' looks back on the four decades since the 22 year old Richard Branson and his colleagues launched their record label.

Here at Uvinyl, we welcome a brilliant collection of very special limited edition 7" picture discs and LPs by era-defining artists including the the Spice Girls, The Verve and Meat Loaf to tie in with the Virgin40 celebrations.

The disc can be purchased here

I've just had a look and it is available from Amazon UK but NOT Amazon USA. However the Universal Music Store and some of the sellers on Amazon UK will ship to the USA.

I have this from the first time around, but don't have a record player any more. It would be nice if Virgin embraced users of newer technology for their celebrations too.

What like? A nicely packaged digital download???

As a record player owner and user, It's a nice collectors item, and I'm glad they're still releasing some nice vinyl... Much nicer than shitty downloads!!

Don't know who else has received their disc yet but Andy and I are appalled at the quality of it.

The AFL artwork looks pixelated and distorted, it's comparable to something that's been ripped from Google Images and enlarged.

The back of the disc (black with the Meat Loaf logo repeated) is fine but the main image is atrocious - Meat, Jim and Bat II deserved better.

Good job I stopped typing my equivalent post when we realised we were both on the forum at the same time, I opened my post with exactly these words. Very disappointed in this item.

Your discs a lemon, and you want your money back?

Just about! Perhaps I'm super critical and everyone else will love it but we were shocked at the image quality.

No, I don't think you're being super-critical. I wasn't overly impressed with the image quality either.

You're right, Meat, Jim and Bat II deserve much better.

Cheap rip off, looks like they couldn't get hold of the original picture so just blew one up that they had. There are times when the grainy effect works but this isn't one of them.

Scans of the actual picture disc, expand the pics to bigger size and make your own minds up.

Front

Rear

You all bought Virgin's last Meat Loaf release. Does the lack of attention to detail really surprise?

I'm not overly fond of the image but it looks like something Delboy would sell with all the pixelation

Could anyone who actually played the record confirm which edit of Anything for Love is used?

I should start updating my website again—it's been more than a year—and this is as good a place to start as any, but I haven't got a record player at my disposal at the moment.

I don't have it, but it seems to be the 7:51 edit. The 'Longer Still (But Not As Long As The Album Version)' which would mean it's a simple rehash of the 7" single released in 1993. Why anyone would prefer that edit to the video edit is beyond me.

Yes you should. Your website is most excellent. On a slight tangent, I notice that on your Welcome To The Neighbourhood page, the Japanese edition has two bonus tracks.

Quote:
13 I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) (live) 5:27 Jim Steinman
14 Bat Out of Hell (live) 11:03 Jim Steinman

Live tracks produced by Meat Loaf and The Neverland Express

Mixed by Randy Nicklaus

I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That) Recorded live in New York, NY,
July 1993

Bat Out of Hell Recorded live at Wembley Arena, London, March 1994
Am I right in assuming that Bat Out Of Hell is just the one from Live Around The World and not some rare recording I've never heard?

That's what I suspected. Thanks.

Thanks. But unless I'm very much mistaken, it's not the version from Live Around the World.

That was my initial optimistic view. I'm pretty sure Live Around The World has BOOH labelled as from Germany and is 10.55 long. The other BOOH's from that era are all longer than 11.03.

Hudson Theater is 11.39
Beacon Theater is 11.58
Bat 2 tour rehearsal is 12.11 or 11.13 for the short version

Then my naturally pessimistic side pointed out that it's probably the version from LATW mislabelled and with some extra silence.

I'll take my anorak off now.
