Exclamation Clive Davis New Book

I saw the Katie Couric show a few days ago and Clive Davis was on promoting his new memoir. I took great offense to his saying Janis Joplin had come on to him but he turned her down. He was honored however. Of course she is dead and can't refute what he has said.

I believe there are some mentions of his interaction with Meat and Jim, brief ones. I don't think he mentions that he told Jim he did not know how to write a song . I also saw that Kelly Clarkson has took great offense to his book as she feels he did not state the facts.
I personally kind of find Clive Davis sort of smarmy .
He also used her show to "come out" as a bisexual . I doubt anyone cares really.
I am including a link to the book. There are many links on the net about this book and the reaction it is getting. I am unsure about links on the forum so this is not a link promoting his book. I hate myself but will probably buy it.

LIke him or not, he is an interesting person and has done alot for the music business. Yes, I think I will be reading it just to see what he has to say. Must contact the library to put in on hold. See if there is any mention of Jim & Meat. Thanks for letting us know about it Breeze

Can't really blame him for turning down Janis Joplin. I'm sure some will take this as offensive, but as great of a performer as she was... woof. Plus she was always drunk, so it wouldn't surprise me if she came on to lots of people. Plus it was the free love 60's.

I take more offence to him saying that Jim can't write a song. The greatest songwriter of all time and he can't write a song??

There's an anecdote in the new Springsteen bio that she supposedly wanted him one time, and he high-tailed it out of there.

“We got turned down by everybody, you know, four times, by every label I can think of,” Meat Loaf tells In The Studio host Redbeard. “Clive Davis (president of Columbia Records at the time) said to me, ‘Do you guys listen to Rock’n’Roll?’, he said, ‘You’re like the Ethel Merman of Rock’n’Roll’.”

It is just appears tacky on his part to say this about someone who can't respond back. I hope Janis' family responds. I could also care less who he has sex with now or ever. I recall jerry Lewis on TV claiming he'd slept with Marilyn Monroe. He probably did b/c as someone said, it was the 60 and by todays standards they were all pretty promiscuous . At a certain point, it is just tacky to reveal things like that . I just hate tacky tawdry tell all sex books. Why would he even say a thing like that about Janis? To prove how important he was?
The part about Jim and Meat is well known . Yes, Jim is an amazing writer and it just goes to show how wrong he can be. Who was it what said Elvis would never make it?
Kelly clarkson has also responded to his book. She is very upset.

I don't really see what the big deal is. Is it really some big surprise that Janis Joplin tried to sleep with him? Who DIDN'T she try to bang. If he revealed something shocking like he turned her down and than she started stalking him along with sending him bottles of her own urine and locks of her hair, than it would be tacky.

Same with Jerry Lewis and Marilyn Munroe. It's interesting, but is it really that shocking?

What's next? "NEWSFLASH: Marianne Faithfull claims that Jim Morrison was really drunk one night and came on to her, but she turned him down. The shocking story at 6pm"

"ALSO, Keith Richards has been found with Drugs."

I think two examples is enough.

Well, I just disagree . I feel it is disrespectful to the deceased person . It is disrespectful to kiss and tell. In Jerry Lewis case- it just seemed like really old news and who cared. He's using Marilyn's name to increase his importance. As far as Janis Joplin, yes she probably did but why oh why does Mr. Davis need to tell us that? I'm sure he's been propositioned before by people hoping to enhance their careers. It is just not news worthy and why even bring it up? The only reason I see is to enhance his own sense of self importance.

The reason is to get people (like you) talking. The same reason why tabloids exist in the first place. You obviously find this interesting and other people will as well. If people just minded their own business than you wouldn't have stuff like this.

Unfortunately, Human beings are nosy by nature. For some reason we care about who is sleeping with who, who is going out with who, intimate details of their lives that you would never know if it wasn't for the media and the people who eat it up.

Not to say that I'm not slightly guilty of it as well, but I need a little bit more than this to be shocked. I don't care what goes on (or doesn't go on) in people bedrooms.

All he said is that he turned down Janis Joplin. Maybe he did it because she was unattractive or maybe it's because he was married. In order for it to be truly disrespectful you would have to give me something that they were not known for.

If he said that he turned down someone (for lack of a better example) like Linda McCartney THAN I would find that shocking and disrespectful. She's dead AND she wasn't known for being like that (to my knowledge).

And for the record, if I nailed Marilyn Monroe I would MAKE SURE that everybody knew at some point.

Clive Davis is all the things he is accused of, He is slimy, smarmy, disrespectful & stabs people in the back at every possible opportunity.

However he is ALMOST right on one thing, Jim Steinman does not know how to write songs.

Jim writes amazing stories & fantasies that he just happens to wrap up inside a song
