Default Meat Loaf musicians

Here's an idea! Are there any musicians out there? Anybody who plays an instrument? How about a thread or another "General Messages" "Tiretracks And Broken Hearts" "LBAGG" "BAT III" "CHSIB" "HCTB" kind of thread... where the Meat Loaf fans who play instruments could share and discuss how to play certain Meat Loaf songs or parts of them

Granted, a lot of Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman music is very intricate. A lot of complex parts and pieces. But I feel that if there are enough people who play an instrument on this forum we could learn and enjoy a few things.

For instance I've been wanting to learn how to play DID YOU EVER LOVE SOMEBODY. But when I went to look up a guitar tab. What I perceived by ears something that would be easy to do.. it turns out the song itself is not in standard EADGBE tuning. Which I was bummed cause I don't know how to drop the tuning that way. But I was also delighted to see that even what seemed to be a simple music arrangement was even more complex and deeper than previously thought. Just more reasons to be a Meat Loaf fan

I like this idea. It might not be big enough for it's own forum, though :S

Also, you can cheat with guitar tuning on Did You Ever Love Somebody.

Use the transpose thing on the side to take it down one semitone. If you do that, you can play the chords as they're written, in the normal EADGBE tuning, and have it sound the same as the recorded song. That's assuming whoever uploaded it chose the right chords to start with, though. Which isn't always the case

Thanks for your tip I notice the 'transposing' on the left column. Would I still have to drop my guitar tuning from EADGBE? I don't really understand what 'transposing' means.. this idea is new to me.

Transposing just means changing the key of the song. The guy who uploaded the chords has it written in the key of E - the song is actually in Eb, though, which is why he's changed the tuning for simplicity's sake (because Eb has lots of chords that might be a pain to play, depending on who you are). If you play an E chord in THAT tuning, it will sound like an Eb. So he's getting the same sound for less effort.

If you're not comfortable changing the tuning of the guitar though (all you're doing is taking each string down one semitone to do this particular song, by the way), transposing the song down one key and playing those chords will have the same impact. So if you don't want to touch the tuning, just play the chords as written after transposition

Hope that made sense! I think I know what I'm talking about
