Default Thoughts on the Violin

Just curious. I've seen some people hating on the violin in the Guilty Pleasures review thread, and I've seen others loving it. Now that the newness has worn off...where do you stand?

I quite like it. I can see how it wouldn't be to some peoples' tastes, but I think it's a cool addition. I particularly like it in Bat out of Hell, even if it is only a minor role. It adds a more Steinman quality to the pieces, which can only be a good thing in my book As weird as it may sound, to me it embodies Jim's comment from Wasted Youth (the live version): "It had a heart of chrome and voice like a horny, throat-sucking angel!"

I like the violin

On the DVD it works really well. For the MMW tour, it would fit in as much, but forthe DVD it gets my stamp of approval

Absolutely loved the violin it really stood out for me and I'm hoping (however unlikely it may be) that she'll be in the UK next year

I get the feeling that Ginny is done with the band, maybe someone else can take the spot. Preferably another attractive young lady

I agree with Wario that it wouldn't work on the MMW tour. I don't hate it, but I prefer the music to rock so it doesn't fit in, for my taste.

Love the violin addition on The Guilty Pleasure DVD and CD! Would love to see Ginny on the 2013 tour.

I thought this was the standard live version of Wasted Youth, but after listening to Live Around the World again I'm apparently mistaken. Been a while since I listened to it

EDIT: Wait, he doesn't say throat here either. A what sucking angel?

I loved the violin, such a great addition, especially on the Steinman songs. The only thing I disliked was my personal annoyance at myself for having not having stuck at my own musical instruments and made a go of them when I left school - it could have been me!

Meat if you really get desperate I'll go back and have lessons

Why should it be that every time a new woman joins the NLE, she is expected to be young, thin, and attractive? It's time to break that double standard. If the violinist had been 60-years-old and overweight, I would appreciate her talent, just the same.

Regarding strings, I think a cello would have been a better fit for Meat's music. The arrangements on the current MMW tour are the best I have heard, so I don't think strings are necessary anyway.

There wasn't much violin in the show. I liked it on POE, but not on Bat or Two Out of Three.

I prefer Two Out of Three on the Mad, Mad World tour, which really rocked with the piano/guitar in the middle and they did a great job updating the vocal arrangements. On MMW, the instrumentals aren't so long and fit well in the songs, so it's a great balance of vocals and music.

I love how Jim's just like "~~~~ this shit!" at the end of the speech and kicks over the mic stand. Such a powerful performance, I can't get enough of it
