This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!! The Giving Tree (7) This song is one of my favorite on the album. It's a little Life Is A Lemon as a story, in melody I cannot compare to any Meat song. That's what I would call new style of Meat, even if I think his old style was better. This song is very okay, intelligent lyrics, strange but enjoyable tune. The vocal is not bad. Good job, Meat! My score: 7 |

You can probably compare the melody to Testify. I do. I find it to be a Testify volume 2 sort-of song. Its a little of Testify meshed with MATLAF.
Love this song, only small gripe is it ends a bit abruptly. It could've used a kicked-up reprise of the chorus at the end. Dunno if my views will change after haring the US/UK release, but as of now: ![]() ![]() Last edited by Wario; 23 Dec 2011 at 14:47. |

Best song he has recorded in recent years (aside from Prize Fight Lover and Song Of Madness).

To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed with this one. I fell in love with HCTB like you would not believe, and it got me so pumped for HIAHB that I basically researched every song on the album the moment the track list was released >.> There's a live version of the Giving Tree on YouTube by the songwriter (Evan Watson), and it's a very dust and bones sort of take on it. It sounds incredible, and with proper production, it could have been something really special and unique. Instead, it's more or less just another rock song. A very good rock song, but still nothing out of the ordinary.
7 for me. The above aside, it's still a damn good take on the tune. And probably the best song on the album. |

Nothing changed as well, it's not remixed. I still find this song one of the best on the album. 7 from me

10. Possibly my fave song on the whole album. The bridge followed by the pre-chorus ("straight down to the devil" into "giving tree stops giving") is fantastic.

Great lyrics and vocals. Another song for this century, and for today. Perfect fit with Meat's new style which is superb. Another winner which I cannot fault. So, 10.

8.75 - love it, the first track on the album that really grabbed my attention. Driving percussion, great vocals, atmospheric production, and an excellent cautionary tale.

It's my favorite track from the CD. I got hooked on it from the first time I heard Evan Watson sing it when he opened for Meat at the Irving Plaza in NY ![]() And I love how Meat has truly made it his own ![]() |

Raaaaad! :) love the song.. Never heard it comin'. Leno appearance excelerated it to a whole new level. It's a solid tune, makes me think the way CC would have contributed. I dunno, but to me this song just made me think of her, is she touring or anything?

![]() ![]() ![]() I like the slow burn into the song. This song seems to be dedicated to almost every contestant of the X Factor and Pop Idol ![]() Celebrity these days is very fleeting, there's always someone ready to take your place so careers tend to be a lot shorter than they used to be with a lot of contempory artist on the scrap heap before they have a chance to do much work (i'm debating wether that's a bad thing ![]() This song sums it all up pretty well IMHO. Blinded by the dollar, paper deals, it's all about getting the contract and the money, no matter how soon it's all over. The one word out of place IMO, is "trading, one pound of gold, for now ten pounds of flesh". It just doesn't seem to sit that well in my ear. But that's just nitpicking, because it's a really good chorus. Interesting that the giving tree, from my understanding, is the record company building. Some nice riffing from Justin ![]() 9/10 Last edited by The Flying Mouse; 27 May 2012 at 19:52. |
