Who are they to say what 'cool' is? In other words they mean young right?

Is age anything to do with this? Reading that it seems that Cliff's music won't be played because he's not "cool" enough for that station, not because he's too old. If they don't like Cliff's music I'd assume that they wouldn't like it regardless of how old he is.

He's banned from a station playing 60's music?

Did see him once at Wembley Stadium. Can't say it was my best concert experience.

To be fair, he was only banned on the one radio station. It's more likely that the radio station in question is attempting to appeal to the younger generation, and they're far more likely to do that by promoting the pop crap that clogs up a lot of the music industry. Sadly, that isn't Cliff Richard's area of expertise :(

Have I misunderstood it that it's a station dedicated to 60s? I thought Absolute Radio 60s was the name, as in they play 60s stuff??

Based on that I don't see how it can be ageism if they're continuing to play other 60s stuff by - for example - The Beatles, The Stones, Springsteen etc

I think they only play songs from the 60's. Is this a station for the younger generation or a trip down memory lane for the older folk. If it is the latter, then banning Cliff does seem a bit harsh.

You're right I didn't get that it was a station for the 60's. In which case they really shouldn't be banning someone who has sold more than anyone in this country.

Considering what's being played on the radio these days, I even think it's cool not to be played on it. :twisted: I've never been a huge fan of Cliff Richard but I like a couple of his songs and the stupid decision by the folks running that radio station has made him an involuntary rebel. :cool:

And rebels are cool! I know it doesn't relate to this because I did get it wrong, but the music is definitely ageist anyway aren't they. If you're lucky on my local radio station you might get some abba, but that's about it. No beatles, no rod stewart, no meat, no rolling stones etc etc. In fact i think abba are the only older ones i have heard.

the music industry is really just the packaging industry, stamping out thousands of clones and soundalikes of what they think will sell. they don't like change, they don't like what doesn't fit the mould and they don't like taking risks, in my opinion.

Who cares about Cliff Richard ? If I never heard another of his records it'd be too soon ... so good decision by that radio station if you ask me ...

but mistle toe and wine should soon be getting airplay ;)

Generally I don't care for Cliff's music, I respect what he does but it's just not for me.

HOWEVER....NOTHING beats his Christmas album! Nothing makes me feel more festive!

If more radio stations banned Cliff Richard the world would be a better place ;)

Seriously though, the guy was popular in the 60s and it is a 60s station so I don't really see a reason to not play him. People obviously go to that station looking for music from that era and unfortunately Cliff was a part of that era.
