74. Why Isn't That Enough?

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!

Why Isn't That Enough? (6)

I have ambivalent emotions with it. Sometimes I like it sometimes do not. I have to say the lyrics is too simple. You can find some parts from Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. I don't know why but I don't like that song too. Sometimes I think the melody is good and after I think it's forced. CHSIB and DIST are better... it's sure!

My score: 6

Average: 8.21 (213.4/26)

i give it an 8 cos i like this one.

Bart 11 Jun 2003 17:09

it is one of the best. the vocal part in the middle is tremendous. 9/10

mariella 11 Jun 2003 19:56

I agree, one of the best!

9,5/10

I like this song

I give it an 7!

Garrett 11 Jun 2003 20:58

One of the worst songs on CHSIB and even one of the worst songs of Meat ever. The lyrics is too simple and the melody doesn't sound good. I don't like it. It sounds like an ordinary mainstream ballad from an average boygroup.

4/10

Sapphire Lady 11 Jun 2003 22:09

I'm with Garrett on this one.

5/10 max

I think this is one of the better ballads on the album. I do have a bit of a problem with the similarities to "Two Out Of Three" - it certainly would appear to have been inspired by that song. That of course is not necessarily a bad thing - after all Jim admitted in a Bat Out Of Hell documentary that Two Out Of Three itself was inspired by the Elvis Classic "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You"

I'll give it 8/10

Sue K 12 Jun 2003 11:06

oh..i think it's a LOVerly song...one that makes me hit the repete button...a very...oriental/asian sound to it...methinks...i can picture him walking thru one of those japanese gardens...know the kind i mean? and then...i hear the waves gently coming onto the shore...yass..a japanese garden near the ocean...it flows...loverly...

i give it..a 10...

tink...XO

Bart 12 Jun 2003 15:31

it sounds like a marco borsato song. Meat knows him from the notp tour.

ChrisBelfast 12 Jun 2003 16:38

7.5

I'm torn over this one though.
It took me a while to like it but now i really do. It starts very slow but about 1/2 way mark it speeds up and meat raises his voice and starts shouting, this has emosion and is by far the best part of the song. I find myself starting it from about 1/2 way in..... if only the whole song was like this. Anyone agree about the 2nd half being better?
I think if anyone else had to sing this song it would be poor. Due to the simplicty etc of lyrics and tune it really needed meats passion and energy.

heat 12 Jun 2003 17:22

I really really like this one - one of the better ones on CHSIB.

8.5/10

Not the best lyrics. Good music. Not my favourite song, but it isn't that bad.

Taipan 12 Jun 2003 23:33

for me, this song is the other person in 2 outta 3 - it's the person who gets dumped, but they're asking, why isn't that enough? people complain that it's similar, but to me, that's the idea! a very nice song, but you notice how meats voice cracks a lil in places? they coulda fixed that up in pro tools or something...

7/10

I think that slight bit of strain in his voice makes the song more powerful and emotional, I actually like it.

and on third thought..and after many listens yesterday..when i said..re: the ocean...gently laps at the shore? the build up ends up sounding like crashes..during the musical ...interlude...or whatever..i can picture Meat...up on the rocks... looking out to sea..yasss..that's what i kept seeing....

now i'll have to go back and see what these cracks are all are talking about...tough job ...but SOMEbody has to do it...

tink..bidding all a good morning...XO

The person singing 2 out of 3 was dumped a long time ago and is in a new relationship which he can't commit to 100% because his heart still belongs to the woman who dumped him.

In Why Isn't That Enough I don't think it's entirely clear whether the person singing is being dumped or is doing the dumping because the relationship just isn't working anymore. You could interpret it either way.

It's certainly a very sad song and not one you'd want to be listening to when things aren't going well between you + your partner.

Sue K 14 Jun 2003 03:04

i seems to me..that this is being sung by the person..dumped...and they have no idea why...after...they expressed..didn't they..that they want the other ...need the other..and love the other...however..they are missing...something..but they don't know what...

perhaps...they would do anything for love..but take out the garbage..as Meat joked at the grammy announcements...lol...

perhaps they didn't show the other person that they appreciated them...but whatever made the other go away...the dumpee...just doesn't understand..

that's my take...

To me, this soung is about someone who realizes that the end of their releation is near, because the 'other party' does not seem to love the main character anymore. He does not want to let her go, because he still loves her, but because he does, he does not want to make her unhappy and realizes its better for both of them to let her go.
Musically I'm not all that convinced, but its still a good song. I could have done without the female choir though.

Not as good as the previous tracks, but there are worse songs on the album. I'd give it a 7.5 out of 10.

Sue K 14 Jun 2003 14:58

ahh..evil..you just me go back and read the words...and that last bit...you know that i want you..etc...

then...so why isn't that enough?... that's where i thought...perhaps...the person doesn't understand why...but then the FINAL line is...

i wish that it was enough... do i sense a bit of selfishness here...that the person wants that to be enough ..and not have to do any more than that....

or...is the person incapable of doing more??

hmmm...

tink...XO

evil nickname 14 Jun 2003 15:31

Or the "I wish it was enough" line is to indicate that he has accepted the situation, and he sees he can't change what happens, but still wishes that wanting, needing and loving her was enough to make her stay...

Like:

"You know I want you
You know I need you
You know I love you, baby
But why isn't that enough to make you stay?
You got the full three out of three, and still you want more?
You may want more, but I wish that all that I gave you was enough to make you stay..."

Although I love the hard/loud rock songs Meat does so well, I think his voice shows its true beauty in the slow ballads and this song shows his voice to superb affect. While the lyric maybe simple, it is one that I can relate to so well. Reading the posts above, it was interesting to think of the song from the view of the man being dumped. I had always taken it from the view that "he loved her, needed her ... and he wished that was enough".

I would give this one 10/10
