Which CD did you buy today?

The idea is simple: just like in the "What are you listening?" thread, you can post which CD's you've bought (today). Any thoughts about it would be nice too :)

To get things started: "Look! I got a new CD!"

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CMZZZZZZZ_.jpg

Well, in fact, I got 5. I bought a complete set of Arturo Toscanini conducting the NBC Symphony Orchestra on all of Ludwig Van Beethoven's 9 Symphonies.
The last few months, I'm really starting to appreciate classical music, and Beethoven in perticular. This set is widely seen as one of the better collections, and since it was just released in a "budget version", I decided that this was a nice way to get a load of good music.

AndyK 01 Mar 2004 23:07

Katie Melua, Call Of The Search.

A few words about it? Awesome! Superb music to chill out and relax to, her version of Lilac Wine is beautiful!! perhaps I could get it piped onto the forum?

Beautiful Sky, from a band called "Reamonn"
Does anyone outside Germany do know them?
If not, try to get one. It's a POP album, but in a positive way (like Kasim say of himself "intelligent pop")
I saw them on a life show in january and they rocked!

RoknRollJesus 01 Mar 2004 23:31

I just bought:
http://images.bestbuy.com/BestBuy_US...393/639376.jpg
Romeo Void compilation
Two things: Debora Iyall's voice and some great sax!
Why: Saw the "Bands Reunited" thing on VH1.....totally got me hooked again!
Three Words: Never Say Never!

They had a small hit with "Supergirl" here some years back, which is a good song. Other than that, I haven't heard anything by them.
We had a sort of Idols thing, called Starmaker, where a band was 'manufactured'. One of the songs they did on their album was "Supergirl". In the wake of that, Reamonn released it as a single.

Yes, supergirl was there first hit here in Germany. Since then they had some more. But they still know, where they came from. At the show they behave like the nice guys next door. Some other of these "pop idols" should take that as an example

I've been waiting for a thread like this!
Two goodies today:

And as for Romeo Void, Never Say Never is simply one of the greatest singles to come out of the 80's. If only for the line "I might like you better if we slept together". Classic.

Joss Stone "The Soul Sessions"
- proof there are young people who can actually sing!

on order/to be released:

Eric Clapton "Me and Mr. Johnson"
- proof the old guys can still do it!

Yeah Mike, Katie Melua. I've been listening to her and she is sensational!!!

Diane

Mike Piercy 07 Mar 2004 22:31

She is, a bit like Maria Muldaur, remeber her?

Joss Stone is a teenager, 16/17 I think, from Devon, very old style soul, excellent, been on jay leno show in US. Better than "fitty cent" and that lot - know wot I'n sayin'?

Mike

Chris 07 Mar 2004 23:49

I love the Crazy song.

Also been looking for some country CD's. Just bought Garth- Double Live and Shania - Wild & Wicked

http://icedearth.com/img/rel_gb_cs.jpg

The limited edition of Iced Earth's "The Glorious Burden". Had the mp3s for a while, and musically, it kicks butt. Vocally it's okay (their singer left, and they got Tim "Ripper" Owens to replace him - I liked Matt better), but lyrically it's cringeworthy: the album is mainly focussed on wars, and the US Civil one in particular. For my Dutch state of mind, I find it overly patriotic, and too sentimental.

Chris 18 Mar 2004 21:37

Three Weeks ago, I bought the LP Dead Ringer for $6.00

http://perso.libertysurf.co.uk/lee.g...eadring_cd.jpg

And today, my mom and I went to the thrift store and I found 3 records and 2 cassettes
Adding up to $6.80

First one I found Nazareth Greatest Hits LP

http://www.collectable-records.ru/im...hits/front.jpg

Then I found a record full of different artists, I thought I would like it seeing how I know most of the artists Alice Cooper, Boston, so I thought I'd get it, not knowing Meat Loaf is on it! LOL Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad is the song by Meat. The record is called Winners. Made in the 70s. Also an LP they spelled his name "meatloaf" Grr
http://www.ne.jp/asahi/salaryman/asada/jwinn.gif

Then I found Bonnie Tyler's LP Faster Than The Speed Of Night
http://www.jpc.de/jpcimages/big/5366488.jpg

As for the two cassette tapes, I got Edwin McCain (the only song I heard by him is Alive) so I got it. The album is called "Honor Among Thieves"

http://surfsc.com/homegrownmusic/images/emhat.jpg

Never heard any of the songs by this band, but my supply teacher (friend) says U2 is a great band so I bought their "Rattle and Hum" cassette.

Alice 05 Apr 2004 12:23

Yes, I agree. Latest Dimmu Borgir album combines extreme and melodic parts of black metal, that's great. I began to really like this band after their concert here in Moscow in November.
I wouldn't say it's commercial, it's too much variable music for it - I would say "succesful" :).

badger 05 Apr 2004 15:25

I first got Puratanical Euphoric Misanthropia (sp?) and was hooked!

I am getting more into black metal now, although don't know exactly where I am going.

Alice 05 Apr 2004 16:51

Well, that was the same thing with me few years ago with Immortal "At the heart of winter".
About Dimmu Borgir I would recommend "Spiritual Black Dimensions" - though songs on it has more complicated structure and need even more attentive listening I like it most. It has more keayboard arrangements and wonderful clean voice.

Late 90's - 2000+ Black Metal is very fast developing genre, really taking the indie music higher. There were some great releases from Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Limbonic Art, Emperor, Kovenant, some others.
