Stripped down bat

I'm fairly certain that when Meat and Jim were rehearsing Bat Out Of Hell in the hotel back in 1976 they didn't use any motorbike sound effects.

If Bat Out Of Hell was ever to get stripped down to just a piano and an acoustic guitar, then Roy Bittan would definitel have to be the one on the piano and not Steinman...IMO

Jim Steinman might be an amazing songwriter, but even Steinman's admitted Roy Bittan is better than what he is. Some people think Steinman is the best thing since sliced bread on everything he does, but the truth is, his singing sucks and his piano playing could be better.

If you listen to some of Steinman's most awesome songs, then take a look at who's on the piano, it's a safe bet the name Roy Bittan will pop up and not Jim Steinman.

Wasn't Jim talking also about a Bat Out Of Nashville, with all the songs countryfied up? Now that would be good. I don't think stripped down would necessarily work, as part of the fun is the massive productions - worth a try though, you never know!

I once had a friend who did an amazing version of Bat with just him and an accoustic guitar. OK so it's not the big man himself but it was pretty good nonetheless

There are plenty of Meat's songs that could be performed *unplugged*, but Bat just isn't one of them. Strip it down and it just isn't Bat anymore.

oops, meant the whole album, however, i'd love to hear a more rock sound to some of the songs, more guitars and less background vocals, but ive drifted off topic. is it me or does meat sing much better/ more powerfully with a low voice?

Absolutely! I love the way he's allowing his maturing voice to open up. There is nothing more ludicrous than hearing a maturing singer attempting the same notes they were able to strike quite well in their 20s. It's demeaning to their own capabilities.

As far as returning to your original question. Sorry, I went off topic to the degree that I read BOOH *the song* rather than BOOH *the album*. But I still stick with my original post's intent. BOOH *the song* - no way without the guitars and motorbikes, etc., but certainly there are a lot of the other tracks that could lend themselves to a stripped down version I believe.
