Itll probably be mimed. arent most performances on that show mimed?
I haven't watched it in ages but as far as I know it's usually live vocals to pre-recorded music. Not sure about Meat Loaf's previous performances on that show, they sounded pretty much like the album versions to me, but here's a nice appearance by Alicia Keys which sounds live: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQW4QLjr4As
For those who speak German, there is some info regarding the appearance on the bottom of this page: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/poprock/detail/-/art/Meat-Loaf-Hell-In-A-Handbasket/hnum/1604022
Mit der ersten Singleauskopplung "All Of Me" wird Meat Loaf, der in Deutschland ein besonders treues Publikum hat, am 3.12. in der letzten Wetten Dass Sendung 2011 auftreten.
Translation: "Meat Loaf, who has an especially loyal audience in Germany, will perform the first single All Of Me on December 3, on the last Wetten Dass show of 2011."
I hope there will be more info in the next couple of days, I could not find out that much about the guests of the show so far.

It's not a small performance. Wetten Dass creates big sales.

Maybe things have changed and the European promo is starting prior to Christmas now? Wetten Dass is a HUGE show in Germany, and the opportunity to get some promo on a stage such as that is one not to be missed.

According to the link to the online shop I posted, the CD will apparently be released the day before. Judging by the price it does not seem to be an import, so maybe this is indeed the release date for Germany. As 2jaxx, AndyK and unbekannt have said Wetten, dass..? is a huge show in Germany, in fact it is the biggest Saturday night entertainment show. It is also broadcasted in Austria and Switzerland. It has its 30th anniversary this year and the show in December will be the last one with Thomas Gottschalk. Many people will watch it and it will get a lot of media coverage. Yes, it's certainly worth to come over for this "small performance". If he really performs on that show, it will be one of the best opportunities to plug his album in Europe.

Definately! and bearing in mind most of the US doesnt really seem to stick by him when he is releasing a non bat album. U.K, Ireland, Germany and many other European countries go along for the ride as they know its one they enjoy no matter what the theme. Not to say American audiences arent there but i just think they're very much a Bat audience. The smaller shows and Bat dominated sets reflect this.

Maybe Meat will film a video for All of Me with Patti and the band and on Wetten Das, he'll do an interview and play the music video of the song.
It would be really expensive to fly the band out to Germany for one tv show that is mimed.

Great news for Meat, I wonder if it is still set for a Feb release in UK? I mean it wouldn’t be too much hassel to jump on a plane and do a bit of UK promotion in December, great time for promotion platforms on UK TV at the moment with Graham Norten, Alan Carr, Strictly all being on the TV at the moment. Even if they just release an actual single and do a bit of cheeky promotion in the UK before the Feb release it would all help.

If i was in charge of promotion (which sadly i am not) i think the key thing is too really push a Single. It is true to say Meat is more an album seller but the general audience only really recognise Meat with the big singles (maybe with the exception of Bat 1 album) because the singles are played on radio and the videos are played on the TV repeatedly. The truth is a general audience might not actually know Meat has done anything in years because we haven’t really had a proper single release since 2006 and that was a bad choice of song in the first place. For example I know about 5 Lady GaGa songs, they are all singles but i couldn’t name a single album only song. Radio still has power and so do music videos with the popularity of Youtube. Meat might be able to release an Album but without a strong single that a general audience can hear he will not become relevant. He is indeed a legend but the audience should understand he is a legendary performer with new music and not just a bloke holding on to his success from the 70s and early 90s.
I would get Meat single promoting in the UK in early December with the intention of Album release in February. I would have a second single release in February a week before the album release, possible Our love and our Soles as a love ballad would go perfectly with the Valentine’s day period. The live album should be a bonus CD with the album and the Live DVD should be released on the same day. Of course i know promotion is not that easy at ALL. I also realise i have gone WAY off topic, i apologise.

That would be a logical idea. Since the Wetten Das performances are mimed, it doesn't make much sense to fly the band over. And it would be sad if Patti was missing in the band.

This is exciting news, so Germany will be the next place the album gets released. I wonder why they have decided to do that earlier than the rest of europe, he's not going to tour there is he? So All Of Me will be the lead single everywhere by the looks of it, that's fine by me.
it would be great if he starts at least the single promotion early everywhere. its what needs to be done imo, really build it up!!! get on a few of them shows and he will chart very well.

I believe All Of Me is a very 'safe' choice. Too safe.
Remember it is still only 4th in our poll with just one in ten of us recommending it as the worldwide single.
I fear it is not going to have the impact we all hope for.
But, I will be delighted to be proven wrong.

That sounds about right. I still think though that there might possibly be some steinman songs on the album. Not sure how they would fit in with the sound but it would be a huge selling feature.
ALL OF ME is a great first single. I agree too that OUR LOVE AND OUR SOULS would be the next best single. But I have very little faith in whoever picks the singles for Meat as they tend to be some bad choices.

It's 4th in our poll because we're influenced by what we think the best song is, not necessarily what the song is with the most widespread appeal. I think All Of Me is the song that will have the most widespread appeal so I think it's the best choice for the single. It's radio friendly, catchy, has that classic Meat sound, and tells people what the album is about.

As long as there are follow up singles with the same promotion then fine.
But, I am worried it will all fizzle out.
I like All Of Me but is NOT the best song on the album.
Anything For Love hardly fits into your radio-friendly category but it succeeded because it is a fantastic song.
I don't want a steady forward defensive block. Let's slog it over the long off boundary with the big hitters off HIAH.

Yes I agree with you, it is NOT the best song on the album, but it is the song that will have the widest appeal. Just like Anything For Love is in my opinion not the best song on Bat 2, but had the widest appeal which is why it was the single.

But would it have the same appeal to radio now? The business has moved on a lot in the last 18 years. It was an amazing song and a triumph, and once it was being played it caught on and spread across the airwaves, but back then where were still radio presenters who'd buck the system of playlists proscribed by the suits ..
I love All Of Me, and I could see it having a broad appeal, the music sticking in people's minds, and the "chorus" lyrics catching on, and not just to Meat Loaf fans. And a poll consisting of 65 votes from Meat Loaf fans on one fan site (64 if you take away the one for "a mystery song") isn't exactly a robust set of statistics imo as a basis of deciding a single release to the widest market, particularly give the framing of it .. eg (again) after two of the titles. I'd hope Sony have a more sound approach to testing the potential market.
I don't hope anybody is horribly wrong .. just that Sony are informed and right in all they do ;)

Wario did you even read the rest of the thread? We've said that All Of Me is the song which will have the widest appeal, even though GT or LOD may be better songs in many fans eyes. Because it's not just hardcore fans it has to appeal to. Caryl explained it very well.

I love All Of Me, I think it is catchy both in terms of the music and the chorus, I could see it having universal appeal .. And I leave Meat and his record label to make choices and decisions which are not mine to make. I simply support him, rather than run around calling "Woe! Woe!" and forecasting failure. Of course I hope All Of Me is successful. That goes without saying.
However, my gut instinct is that it is the wrong choice.
Maybe the poll sample is too small to be representative, but I am picking up on a trend that suggests other tracks should have been chosen.
If Sony follow up All Of Me with at least two of the three songs which are above it in our tiny survey then I will be happy.
I will gladly eat humble pie next year if I have to confess to you that "You're Right, I Was Wrong".
My support for Meat will never fade.
A very select group of voters though!!
Indeed .. and that's my point really. Select and not necessarily predictive of the mass market. I have no idea which would be better, and unless they release them both we won't ever know ;) But I like to think that those making the decision have done some market research and have based theirs on that. I'm not judging them by other labels over the past few years. I'm happy they're committed to releasing physical discs, which has pleased Meat too, and assume they want it to sell just as much as we do .. it's how they make their money ;)

It's rarely the best song that gets picked as a single. Take any famous singer/band and compare the singles to the other songs on their albums. In many cases you will find songs that are way more interesting than the singles/hits. As others have pointed out, they often opt for a song they think that will appeal to the general public the most. All Of Me is not the worst choice, considering that Cry Over Me was released as a single while plans of boosting a better song were ditched. At least they seem to have a clear strategy this time. I'd rather see a proper single, even if it's not my favorite song, than something like the HCTB "singles" mess again.
I'm thinking Our Love and Our Souls would make a good worldwide single. It's so relevant to the issues people are currently facing (losing their jobs and homes being foreclosed). The song is beautiful and has a really powerful message, and I think it would get a lot of airplay.
So why do you hardly find songs that are "relevant to the issues people are currently facing" on the charts or hear them on the radio these days?
So why do you hardly find songs that are "relevant to the issues people are currently facing" on the charts or hear them on the radio these days?
That thought occurred to me also .. I suspect that those which have greatest relevance to people dealing with unemployment and homelessness may not have the wherewithall to buy singles, which may seem a forgoable luxury when your pockets are empty.
Feel good or anger seems to drive the playlists these days it seems to me ..

I really like All of Me; I think it's a great track with a relevant theme and a contemporary sound (love the piano outro).
That said, my 21 year old girlfriend, who usually listens to more contemporary artists like Damien Rice, Newton Faulkner, Kanye West, Bloc Party, etc., prefers Another Day and constantly says it's one of the best tracks on the album. I can hear her humming it in the shower right now actually!

Caryl is right; speaking from strictly a statistical standpoint, a sample such as was obtained here would probably be thrown out. I think you can compare it to a setlist which is chosen by diehard fans- it wouldn't necessarily appeal to the majority of the audience.
Record companies are in the business of selling records (CD's, downloads, whatever)- period. They employ people whose job it is to pick the tracks that are going to sell the most, not necessarily those that are considered "best".

I thought that old show was canned after that guy breaking his neck failing to jump over that car. Bizarre how some shows run forever in only certain countries. A bit like Big Brother over here whereas that died a silly death very quickly over the rest of Europe.

No, it wasn´t. After the accident (he is in a wheelchair), the host (in germany we say showmaster) Thomas wanted to quit. He made a couple of more shows and this will be the last (with him) and as said before many people will watch it. Then will be a break. They are looking for a new presenter, (but nobody wants to do it.)

I dont think it was a mimed performance. The problem with Tv shows is they get the artist to sing the song live and then dub over the vocals with the album/single version. So I dont think it was Meat's fault I think it was the TV show's producer's fault.

As far as I know by now only two singers performed live on Wetten Dass..?
One is a german singer called Sarah Connor the other name just escaped me.
The last show in Nurnberg has been watched by over 8 million people. Wetten Dass..? is the biggest TV show and celebrities come there without being paid. They all love Thomas Gottschalk. :-)

I'm looking forward to this.
If it is live I don't think it will go wrong like last time. The medley doesn't seem as demanding, it's inside, he'll probably be allowed a soundcheck and I don't think the audience will be a load of football fans already cheesed off that it's not a home act performing.
Though I would love to hear a HIAH song instead of a medley but I think this will still be top notch.

Yeah, I love that Meat's doing this, but I think I'd rather just hear All of Me, since it's promotion for a new album.

I have read many negative comments about the guests, although the show hasn't even taken place yet. Does that mean we're going to see a weak performance? ;) Sorry, I'm tired of reading excuses and explanations as to why a particular performance was not good / will be good / whatever...

So Patti won't be there? :(
She's supposed to be performing with the SAS Band on Dec. 3.
Wetten Dass seems to have changed the schedule for the German release of HIAHB. It might have changed Pattis schedule too...
This very last Wetten Dass show with host Thomas Gottschalk is a perfect fit: Meat gets to present his new single (at least parts of) and Wetten Dass gets to revisit its own history, their famous "kiss".
Thats just what the show asks artists like Meat to do recently.
You're obviously right. :? I did a video search and found more medleys than I expected. (Haven't watched the show for a long time so that unfortunate development has escaped me so far.) Good Lord, even Justin Bieber did one. Hopefully Lenny will perform an entire song.

I don't see Patti's name listed with the performers for the SAS Band show anymore. Maybe she's now performing with Meat in Germany.
I don't want to see Anything For Love without Patti. She's also great in You Took the Words. YTTW sounded really great at the AFL Finals in Australia.
But if it IS to be a medley he might just sing part of the song anyway. There's two verses before it becomes a duet. Or we could wait and see ..

I agree. The duet part is the hook of the song and Meat & Patti perform it so brilliantly.
wonder how long he's got?
I don't .. I'll find out soon enough ;)
But it doesn't work as a solo song…
I didn't suggest it would be people's preference. I just said it would be perfectly possible to sing part of the song in a medley without involving the duet.
And if as Sarge says the medley is normally 4 minutes long, to include AFL and have anything else in at all, the song would have to be severely shortened.

It was lip synced?????
I thought I read that somewhere here. Dont nail me on it.:?
If not, then it was very good night for Meat's voice. But I still dislike the new song and most of the songs by prelistening on amazon. (yes I know it is not the best quality, but you can make a picture of the melody and the instruments used. And I hate the inflated use of the piano mixed with too much chorus. Steinman songs have the same arrangment but the songs "manage" this far better).

heres the full performance. Meat sounds ~~~~ing great

Posted it on my shaw connection so it may be slow if multiple people are trying to get it at once.
Might still be processing as my internet connection is slow like hell ;)

Thank you both for posting the links :-)
Absolutely amazing !
I don't think it does performers and the music any favors to squeeze three songs in four to five minutes. Maybe I would have liked it better if they had done without the old songs and played All Of Me in full instead. The music I liked best on this show was the Billy Joel song they played towards the end to some classic Wetten, dass..? footage but hey, Meat kissed Thomas (surprise, surprise :D) and giving a CD to Jessica Biehl was a genius idea. That way, it was being displayed on the screen very well when she left. :)) Did anybody notice the little chat he had with Lagerfeld about their clothes and jewelry?

I don't know I really don't like the new song(s). Sounds too much pop nothing special in the melody. Some of the songs sound like too overproduced as Meat's Forever Young, Because of You and You're Right, I Was Wrong. I have to say I really can't follow your doxology for the new album.
I will prefer Meat and Steinman songs till the end of the time!
And what does that have to do with this thread?
Yeah, Meat should just go disappear and grow old silently until Steinman writes an album of new songs for him, which will likely never happen. Stop pissing on everyone else's bonfire and if you don't like it, don't listen to it.

Also I hope some of the 'he should retire' halfwits are ready to eat some crow right about now.

I'm really not going overboard but there wasn't a foot wrong in that performance. And again, how awesome did he sound at the end of AFL?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As someone else said that was 1993 standard and I don't care what anyone else says on here, it was. Absolutely 10/10. Can't wait to hear what Meat thought of it.

After the troubles we won't mention in recent times it was a big moment you're right. Not that he had anything to prove to any of us as we already knew about the great talent he showed tonight.
This show is a big deal in Germany right? Did I hear someone say that 40 million people watch it or something? Because it was the last one ever wasn't it?

By the way HIAH is currently #12 on German iTunes. Not bad to say it's been out for a day.

It was the last one with this host who's pretty much a German institution and has been presenting it for over 20 years. This was a whole big deal, there were weeks of build up on German TV and a countdown show and so on. It's not just on in Germany either, I watched it on TV from here in Holland. It's probably not a stretch to say it's the biggest live entertainment TV show in Europe.
Kudos and cheers to all the fans who know better than to ever count our man out.

I don't find that .. but as you've listed 3 songs I really love, I'd be happy either way

I wasn't posting a personal opinion, I was posting a matter of fact in terms of viewing figures and general categorisation.
Besides, it's not like the UK didn't have Noel's House Party and similar fodder, which was also big at the time.

Never mind what we think of the show the fact is it is a huge draw and with the host leaving after so many years even non regular viewers would have tuned in no doubt. Considering the size of the audience this was a huge performance for Meat and he must of been incredibly nervous. But boy did he nail it and do the job, i would say i would have preferred the whole of 'All of Me' however the end of AFL was so great it was worth it. Last i looked Hell in a Handbasket was at number 11 on itunes--Hopefully there is a bit more promotion to come and this could creep into the top 5. He needs a big show performance here in the UK when promotion comes along as well as the states.
1st: LOVE the Meat Loaf lighting behind John. 2nd: The new jacket (moons/stars/peace signs)...is a grower on me. 3rd: LOVE the All of Me to AFL transition. I can almost hear it going way bigger and dramatic at the live show (tour that is). 4th: GOD IT WAS SO GOOD TO SEE HIM AGAIN! 5th: vocal chord, schmokel chord.....DAMN IT he's so good! 6th: Thank you so much for posting the links...audio/visual and the kisses! LMAO! 7th: Congratulations on coming in at #12.
Way to go Meat!!!

TTW wasnt mimed and AFL wasnt but parts of AOM understandably were. Why was it pitched so low at points though?
Well anyway... by god it kicks ass.
great performance, lots of people watching, job done!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this performance and thought Meat sounded great. Thank you to those who have very kindly shared the clips so we could al enjoy it.
46% market share which translates to approx. 15 million spectators.

You're right, if he came over to the UK and did the same performance on Strictly or something it would be great for him. That show gets watched by 12 million people, and they've had him on before so they do like him anyway. Can't see him doing X Factor because i'm not sure he's a fan of it, but Strictly would be good.

It's weird isn't it? I thought in an earlier post Meat said the performance would be lip synced, but it obviously wasn't. I wonder why he decided to do it live. One of the best decisions he's made anyway.

Can't believe I watched 3hrs of German TV last night. Thanks to those who made that possible for me!
But, it was definitely worth it. Meat and Patti knew at the end they had nailed it.
Hearing 3 songs in 5mins is a bit weird but, hey, let's not be too fussy.
The highlight for me was the new song. I always said All Of Me was the right choice.
Is wetten on next week?

Not sure that "All Of Me" was lip synched - some of the vocals sounded different to the album.
Either way, thought it was a great performance and a fantastic way to prove those mean old Aussies wrong - well done to Meat and the band.

Yes , there is a Europe cover, Germany went to print to quick. Why is coming out Dec 2nd .... ? Wetten Das. should be watched by 40 million people. Doing " a Medley ... " all of me, Took the words and a little AFL" 4:45. Then on Monday doing and big Breakfast show in Berlin. Doing "All of me " and "live or die" from the record lip sync.
I was wrong, he didn't say he would lip sync any of Wettan Das. He will be doing that tomorrow on their big breakfast show.

I think it might have been. Just the opening lines tho, kind of like blind as a bat at the royal variety a few years ago but done better. I think its just a safe guard to ensure he gets into it at the right time with correct pitch etc, he's said many times he has bad rhythm and pays little attention to timing. The inflections on the words were matching the cd perfectly. Thats what i heard anyway. Still a great gig and show like, doesnt take away from the performance at all. :-)

I don't mind medleys as such, but I don't think they really suit artists like Meat where each song is like a scene from a play and lasts up to 10 mins plus. You lose too much of the performance (time wise not quality wise) to really get what the song is all about. Having said all that I think it went very well, and it was a good idea to fit the new song in with the old ones. Meat has very few songs that would fit into the sort of timings tv shows are likely to provide so it was a good compromise.
