View Full Version : Bad Attitude USA or Rest Of World edition?

I've just had Bad Attitude blasting out while doing some cleaning. First I have to say that it's still a bloody good album. Second, what version do people prefer? Also, does anyone know why there were two different mixes?

I think the USA mix is better, the vocals are clearer and the songs are better.

They both have their superior and inferior mixes, so I love both equally.

Gotta say though that the UK Mix of Surf's Up is far betetr then the Piano/Vocal US counterpart.

Modern Girl and Bad Attitude's US versions are better produced.

but on both editions Cheating in your Dreams has a sudden volume changed 40 seconds in.

I bought the UK CD and thought it was a very poor mix.

I then found out that the US CD was different, I hunted it down and eventually bought it for $3 on Ebay (it is quite rare!)

I definitely prefer the US version. Stronger sound, crisper vocals and less-eighties.

So is the US mix version not readily available on CD over there?

Is it possible to buy the US-version (RCA Records) somewhere?

I dont know which one I have. Cheating... is a little quieter than rest of the album and its also the last song on the album.

If Cheating in your Dreams is the last track (and it says RCA on the spine) it's the US version.

I prefer the US version. There also is a Surf's Up promo record by RCA that contains different versions of the song.

The difference is explained by Bob Kulick in an interview he gave for RVM a few years ago ... basically when they released the US version the record company said they could remaster it as the UK version wasn't as good as it shoud have been, so Meat and the band set about remastering and managed to remix and re-record a few bits at the same time.

Well, it contains (http://mljs.evilnickname.org/meatloaf/singles/surfsup.html) the US album and single version. Unless you're talking about some version I've never heard of, that is.

And the problem is...?

There's a problem? All I'm saying is that there's just one different version of Surf's Up on the promo.

And all I'm seeing is someone who has taken yet another opportunity to promote his website. ;)

And the problem is...? :P

I mean, 1) clicking the link is completly optional, as 2) all relevant information was contained in the post, and c) I'd just as well link to any other website that contains the same information but there doesn't seem to be one. ;)

So would I be right in saying the US mix is the definitive one? I see on evil nickname's webite (which I visit reguarly by the way ;)) that Meat himself was involved in the mixes on that one.

However, Meat said in a very recent interview that Bad Attitude was perfect apart from one song he didn't want included... The US release still contains all the same songs, so I wonder which it is?

The easiest way to tell the difference is that the UK version (inferior IMO) is on Arista and the US one is on RCA. If you see a copy listed in the US on Ebay or Amazon it's well worth messaging the seller and finding out what label it's pressed on. Some sellers know what they have and charge heaps for the US version, others have no idea. "Patience is a virtue, son"

The track order is changed very slightly but the main difference is in the mix.

Does anyone know what song Meat was talking about when he said he didn't want it included?

Looked and searched. no such poll of this. There have been threads discussing it but no poll to determine the winner.

What do would you prefer: The US Mix or the UK Mix?

I prefer the US mix of everything but POTA. So by majority, the US Version.

How do you manage to post almost every thread you create in the wrong place? I'm beginning to think we need a mod dedicated to tidying up after you :lmao:

I know which gets my vote ;-)

Threads merged, with the new poll retained to give everyone a chance to vote again.

Maybe we should have a poll on that?! In honour of Wario's abilities maybe it should be posted in the CHSIB set reviews section?

I bought the Arista copy first (without knowing that there was a difference) and fell in love with the album. Then I managed to pick up the RCA version quite cheap (you just need to know what you are looking for) and I now only listen to that one.

The US RCA version is way better.

sans RCA's POTA.

the UK version is longer and better produced

I prefer the UK versions of Modern Girl, Piece of the Action and Sailor To A Siren, but the US versions of Bad Attitude and Surf's Up. The rest are the same I think? So I can't vote, because there isn't an option for that ;)
