After reading all these posts by Meat and others, Ive relised i hate record companys.
Gordon Haskell summed it up when he said:
"My apologies to the record industry for entering your chart, your domain, you only have the public to blame for daring to buy something that made them feel good without having to go to the fashion police for permission to be granted".

Yep .. and before we close the hatch and fire them into outer space .. might we add the playlist system, those support it, and those who prepare them? And we could pop in a boy "band" or two to keep them entertained on their journey :)

Boy Bands Girl Bands Pop Idol Fame Academy build a big fire and place them all on top of it along with every midi file player and mini disc player that was made and LIGHT IT !!!!!!! errrr sorry back to topic :) unfortunately this biasness is all about money and the people that make the most money is the record companies the artists do all the hard work go thro all the stress and heart ache and for what ?? a pittance that’s what the music bizz is the most cutthroat back stabbing 2 faced well I could go on for ever and that’s all departments no matter what level of it you are in all they care about is how much money YOU can make them one min you can be on top of the world and then before the celebratory bottle is finished you can be on the scrap heap they don’t give a **** well I think you know the word I’m thinking of

tink .. I really didn't mean send all the "bands" into outer space .. just a couple to keep the music machine guys company :)

I know they appeal to many .. my beef is with a business which seems to control what we are allowed to hear to the extent of burying good performers with universal appeal, and a company who contract with someone to release their material and then do the square root of sodall to promote it .. I'm left wondering if Elton, Bruce and Paul M have to do their own promoting .. or if they are just fortunate that the companies releasing their material have grasped the fact that it's worth promoting golden geese as well as goslings sometimes ... even a golden gander with fire in his .. :)

 I absoloutly hate 99% of modern music  .There has not been many saving graces music wise over the last few years. The only ones I can think of right now are Meat,Ozzy, and Gordon Haskell had a pretty good sound 8) .
I hate the ammount of blatantly manufactured bands coming out these days.I though pop stars was the cheekiest thing i've ever seen. They were basically saying "look, this is how we come up with this .... ,this is how commercial it is,this is how we are targeting your pocket for everything we can get,now be good little baa lambs and buy the records and merchandise that goes with it".After seeing all this,PEOPLE STILL ACTUALLY FELL FOR IT. /  (I don't know if too laugh or cry).
Then,as Pete said, they're thrown on the scrap heap. Now that would be great :D if it wasn't for the fact that they've only been discarded for the next pop act :? .
Why is the general public so blind to the fact that bands are killed off quickly these days so they have to buy a whole new set of merchandise, because that's where the money is made now.More money is made from merchandise than from actual music sales, which is pretty sad.
Now I would be prepared to ignore all this teeny bop fodder. If they leave us alone,we'll leave them alone right?WRONG.They don't do they're own thing, they have a soul crushing habbit of ruining classic songs that mean a lot to people  .I'm just waiting for some b...... to record a song from Bat.That will make me one furious Mouse  .
This is one reason that i'm dreading Meat's duet's album. There is no modern artist/bands that should be ever let anywhere near Meat. The thought of any of these talentless cretins recording with Meat feels like the sword of Damocles over my head.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a short post  .Sorry for rambling, but this is a subject that I feel very strongly about (you'd never guess would you  ).
I'll leave you with a little rhyme for those who feel the same way.

(To the tune of Clemintine)
Build a bonfire
Build a bonfire
Put the pop bands on the top
Put the producers in the middle
And burn the ....... lot.

hmmm .. think your petticoat WAS just visible there FM :)

I'm looking forward to an album of duets from Meat actually ..
I think we can rest assured he will work with the right singers .. and I would have thought this probably wouldn't be recording songs you're used to hearing from him .. but I love his duet with Pavarotti, and can think of many established and excellent performers in the music world with whom I would love to hear him sing .. he has such a wonderful voice .. my dream is to hear him sing an adapted version of I know Him So Well from Chess with Barbara D .. I can just see them singing a version .. back to back . where each is referring to the other ..

I agree with the majority of opinions about record companies. Unfotunately money is always the thing that companies work for, and cheesy pop sells more than anything these days. All we can hope for is a few companies, and radio/tv stations, that still want to help good music get played and sold.

However, I wouldn't ever want all pop music to disappear completely, like others have said. I can't expect my little sister to dance round her room to Metallica all the time, even though that would be pretty cool!

Anyway, hears to good 'proper' music, and all who listen to her!

I tell you what Meat should set up his own record company, Fire Ball records, or something, that way he can do what he wants. with no record company Bureaucracy .

Some interesting quotes from, Stephen Lillywhite, Managing Director of Mercury Records UK ...
"Universal - for me - are the best record company in the world. They have the most power."
"People think, “I like that song on the radio; great, I will listen it on the radio”' - you need something else to make someone go out and actually buy it."
"The problem is the UK market has now become more and more singles-driven"
"I'm not into creating bands for a quick profit. I am here to find new talent, sign new bands and do what I do best - make great rock music."
"The objective in Europe is to build a roster of artists and brands out of their London office whilst providing full representation for its myriad of existing talent from the U.S."

hmmmmm ....

Well if i had money
Tell you what I'd do
I'd take a contract out upon a Mercury or two
Driven crazy by a Mercury
Lord maddened by a Mercury
I'd buy me me up this Mercury
And fire me a Chief Exec or two

Well hey now promo guy
You look so fine
You're promoting CDs but they sure as hell ain't mine
Driven crazy by a Mercury
Lord maddened by a Mercury
I've been shafted by a Mercury
And so I'm headed on the road

Well if I had the time
I tell you what I'd do
I'd go and kick the asses of a promo guy or two
Driven crazy by a Mercury
Oh hell I'm maddened by a Mercury
I'd stick them on my fender
And I'd cruise them up and down the road
Oh yeah .. I'd stick them on my fender
And I'd cruise them up and down the road

Now who could we imagine singing this I wonder .. :)

Today I discovered just how wrong the record companies are. Today it sunk in. If Meat can sell out a concert an Arena Concert in Belfast in 4 days, how come he can't sell singles.

Look at this way perhaps/approx 20000 tickets at £30 pounds sold
and rarely any singles sold at £3??

One things for sure, the demand for Meat Loaf is unbelivable, and if a tour company can sell tickets in thousands at 30 pounds then why can't mercury sell the singles at 3 pounds??? Big questions needs answering!! The people are out there to buy the single so why aren't mercury making them?
