Just managed to bug the guys at Universal for some information and we've got the track listing and price!

Townsend Records - Meat Loaf (http://www.townsend-records.co.uk/meat+loaf)

No information at the moment about anything else with the cd, but I'll keep on with it.

Finally.... I might have a better quality cd than the audio I ripped from the dvd :-)
Good find. What would we do without you Kev :-)

PS> Just looked - why aren't they releasing the full lot? but only 10 tracks

djfierce
29 Jan 2008, 10:55
That would take 2 cds.

And the other songs may not be good enough quality to put on there....what works on dvd doesnt always work on audio.

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 11:01
Ohh it's on there! :))

I guess this is the tracklist we should have expected, primarily the new Bat III tracks with a few of the old ones thrown in, but in all honestly I really was hoping for the full setlist. Frying Pan was amazing, hearing Land Of The Pigs live completely converted me to that song, Gimme Shelter was brilliant...it could be better but so long as R&R Dreams is on there I'll keep it shut! :p

RadioMaster
29 Jan 2008, 11:11
hmmm.....not so thrilled about the tracklist

if they dont offer anything new (pigs live, unreleased b-sides) or at least put the whole set list on there, i dont see any reason to buy this one.

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 11:14
I guess the live Bat III tracks are what's new....

djfierce
29 Jan 2008, 11:18
i honestly don't understand why you were expecting the whole show??

It never happened with Melbourne and it doesnt make financial sense to the record company to produce a double disc.

Also if they were honestly going to only put songs from that one show then not all songs were strong enough for a cd

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 11:21
Even if there was no chance of getting the whole show there are songs that were stronger than those on the tracklist...though I guess there's songs that could never be missed out, like Paradise

djfierce
29 Jan 2008, 11:24
i agree, as i assume we are talking about the exact same versions that appeared on the dvd then, yes i would have left some of those out and put others in, but as you said they needed the right balance of new and old songs. Some that have made it on to this cd i deleted from my rip cd as they didnt sound that great without seeing it too.

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 11:27
Some of the songs on there will be spot on - Bad For Good was brilliant, and you all know my opinion on R&R Dreams live - I'm just not sure that that tracklist is a true reflection of what we experienced in May. Not that I won't buy it

RadioMaster
29 Jan 2008, 12:33

Good point, but for me personally as a buyer, this cd wouldnt have any value, as I could get the same result for free if I just ripped the audio tracks from the dvd.
If it was the whole show, we would have, let's say, a "professional rip", that might have been better than the dvd versions, but this way half of the show (we would get for free by ripping) is missing on this release, so the only reason for me to buy this one, would be if they added something new, like pigs or some of the unreleased b-sides.

short: I dont see any reason for anyone to buy this cd when the dvd with even more tracks is around.

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 12:35
Yes but remember that this CD wasn't put together with the knowledge that half of the people who would want it have already ripped the audio from the DVD, as far as they're concerned they're offering you a CD of 10 live tracks that you don't have and can't get elsewhere

RadioMaster
29 Jan 2008, 12:56
yes, but if id have to decide which one to buy, if i saw a cd and a dvd of the same title, but the dvd had twice the number of tracks, I think itd be clear which one id buy.

especially as most people are able to rip the sound off the dvd anyway (with less or more effort lol)

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 12:59
If limited to only buying one then the obvious choice is to go for the DVD for twice as many tracks, but again the cd wasn't put together with the thinking that most people can and will rip the audio from the DVD, no one's meant to have done that!

djfierce
29 Jan 2008, 13:44
I think this may be the reason for the delayed release, so that you dont have to choose which one, personally i dont think you can compare a dvd to a cd :? two completely different experiences...for example take the melbourne dvd and cd, some of the songs on the cd were taken from a different melbourne night than the one that made it to the dvd, there is a reason for that, because one works better being seen than the one that needs to be stronger vocally etc.

Ripping the audio is fine but it will never be as good quality as a cd so i cant really see the fact that some have ripped it affecting the sales too much.

Some vocals on the dvd just arent that great in certain songs and i see at least one on that list, will be interesting to see how good the tweaking is.

And Lucy if your looking for a representation of what we experienced in may i dont feel even the dvd does that, he should have recorded the show at wembley, the show overall was much better imo

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 13:49
Of what we each saw in May then I think we're all going to have different ideas of what would truly reflect the tour - for me the second night in Birmingham on May 16th was (in terms of vocals) possibly the most perfect show I have ever seen and I'd love a recording of it...I just think that of the setlist we had here there are songs that were consistantly brilliant which aren't on there

29 Jan 2008, 14:15
Bad For Good? That's probably the worst performance on the DVD!

29 Jan 2008, 14:20
Great to see AFL is there :D

I would guess they're trying to keep the cost down by not making it a double CD and including everything.

Is that so? Never knew.

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 14:26
(assuming you're not being sarcastic then...) yes, there were two MSO shows which were picked at to make the DVD and CD.

AFL is probably one of the tracks I'd take off the CD if I'm honest. We've got plenty of live versions of this, the only way I'd choose it for the CD is if it was the updated version that we had from May onwards. The only positive point I can pull from putting AFL on there is that it's a record of the era of Meat performing it with Aspen, which I say with the point of view of a collector rather than thinking about any promotional gain AFL would bring to an album

djfierce
29 Jan 2008, 14:28
such a shame RAH didnt get put on cd :(

LucyK!
29 Jan 2008, 14:31
Couldn't agree more. I guess from "their" point of view there was no point knowing that there was the release of the album, the tour and then a live DVD and CD, but it would have been a fantastic recording

AndyK
29 Jan 2008, 15:28
From my experience, a live recording never truly captures the "being there" experience, rather it serves as a reminder (good or bad) of being there. There's been a number of releases of live shows both on CD and DVD by a number of artists (Meat included) where I can say "I was there" or I was at a show from that tourwhihc was pretty similar, and in all cases the recorded show merely acts a reminder. Personally I'd have preferred to see Gimme Shelter and/or Mercury Blues as the encore tracks on this upcoming CD, but I guess the time available on the CD and the possible quality of the audio recording are the factors here.

I very much liked Bad For Good, and preferred it to most if not all of the other tracks.

(assuming you're not being sarcastic then...) yes, there were two MSO shows which were picked at to make the DVD and CD.

I knew that there were two different shows used for the DVD (all but the first half of Paradise and all of FCOL comes from the second night), but I never knew that in some cases they used the other night for the CD. I just expected them to be edited versions from the DVD.

As for the DVD, I still don't have a copy (long story), but I'm told that something is being done about that. And although it would be quite easy to rip the soundtrack, I would still need a copy of the CD to keep my collection complete.
Still, I find the tracklisting unimaginative: another version of Paradise, Anything for Love, Rock and Roll Dreams and Bat. While I get that some songs just 'have' to be there, I'd rather have Objects.

Whoever made that track selection should be shot!

I would have gone for:
Paradise
You Took The Words
Anything For Love
Objects (with the end chopped down a bit)
Rock And Roll Dreams
The Monster Is Loose
If It Ain't Broke
Blind As A Bat
It's All Coming Back
Bat Out Of Hell

The audio of Bad For Good is terrible!

I just wish they'd managed to dig up a recording of Land Of The Pigs from one of the other live shows.

Might have been better as 2 Bats as all of the Bat 1 tracks have been released loads of times, when theres only 1 official release with objects & frying pan on, and obviously no other CDs with Bat 3s.

Still buy it though, despite only just ripping all my faves off the DVD and editing them etc ;)

i guess its less a question of "digging them up" than probably some legal issue with the rights to the soundboard recordings. after all theyre still recording every single show, arent they?

such a shame RAH didnt get put on cd :(

My thoughts exactly when reading all this. For me that was THE magical show to remember for various reasons and sadly there is no professional release of that, just stuff from what I think was a mediocre show in some random place in Canada.
:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I still think: Meat Loaf Live at The Royal Albert Hall sounds a lot more intriguing than Meat Loaf Live from London, Ontario, Canada. I mean :wtf:?!

werent there problems with the audio system at rah? not saying thats the reason nothings been released, but maybe thats another problem for producing a cd.

you pretty much summed it up there.
Both wembley shows ive seen have been better than 3 bats live, then again, munich a month later wasnt as good as 3 bats, and dortmund in oct didnt even get close to the dvd from ontario.
I guess it's gambling if you pick a good show or not (to record and to attend)

I will still buy the new cd, come on its got the live songs on and its another piece to add to the collection..

That was a mistake on the editors behalf (like on the melburne commentary it cuts off right after OOTFP) and was possibly meant to be corrected. They arn't gonna recall all DVDs for that. Plus with the CD they have a second chance. The could have tried also to extinguish the weird hissing sound in 3 Bats' Frying pan during the "Wonder down the ancient hallway" verse, but Frying Pan didn't make the cut i don't think......

Thats alot more likely....Chris, at least half a dozen people scrutinize this before it gets released so there is very little chance something so glaringly obvious would be overlooked, its not your home made stuff that cost pennies so you dont expect much, too much money goes into that for them to be so laid back about it.

Mike you could be right, maybe Meat doesn't feel like he has many more albums left in him so this may be one way out of it, unless his contract specifies new material which is pretty unlikely i guess, we seem forget sometimes that Meat is a grand old age and realistically not far from the end of his music career.
