Default All-Time Top 500 Albums

Meat Loaf Makes The Top Three In Capital Gold's All-Time Top 500 Albums Chart

Meat Loaf narrowly missed out on the top spot in Capital Gold's All-Time Top
500 Albums Chart as verified by the UK's official chart company.

Queen topped the chart with their 1981 album, 'Greatest Hits' with Meat Loaf's 'Bat Out Of Hell' coming in second place. The chart, based on an album's chart positions and the numbers of week spent in the UK Top 75 album chart, was played out in full on the UK radio station on Easter Bank Holiday Monday April 17.

Along with 'Bat Out Of Hell', Meat Loaf scored another two entries in the chart. To see which of Meat Loaf's albums made it into the Top 500 and to see the full chart, go to http://www.capitalgold.com/top500albums

Cool! How great is that? Plus Bat 2 and Dead Ringer in there as well. Congratulations Meat, here's hoping Bat 3 appears in the next list, and helps Bat 1 sales too!

Great, but nobody is better than Queen!
There is a list for Germany, too, but BOOH wasn´t in there! The only thing in was Bat2 on 91 or 92, i don´t know exactly.

Diane, what is this site? I've never heard of it. (States here) Is this only for England? Is BOOH still holding the best selling debut album of all times title?

Capitol Gold is a London based "oldies" station that broadcasts across London and some areas of the UK (in Radio terms in the UK anything released more than about 5 years ago is classed as an oldie these days).

Nice to see Meat in there 3 times, and BAT as the all time favourite "non bext of album" is an achievement worthy of the record!

Capital Gold is a UK radio station. The figures they have used are based on the official UK album charts.

I am not sure about the UK but in America BOOH is now joint 4th highest selling debut album.
1: Boston Boston - 17 million
2: Hootie & The Blowfish Cracked Rear View - 16 million
2: Alanis Morrisette Jagged little Pill - 16 Million
3: Guns n Roses Appetite For Destruction - 15 million
4: Meat loaf Bat out Of Hell - 14 million
4: Backstreet Boys Backstreet Boys - 14 million

If no 2 is tied, doesn't that make GnR number 4, with Meat and BB joint 5th?(next place no.7)

You are correct, well spotted.

So this list is based primarily on factual data like album sales and NOT some spotty kids opinion?

I must say this is a cool consolation.. after reading a copy of "1000 albums you have to hear before you die" which didn't even mention anything Meat or Jim.

That, I'm sorry, is just blasphemous LOL

What the hell are you talking about? Meat Loaf – Bat Out of Hell is listed and also Sisters of Mercy – Floodland

You can go to http://www.rocklistmusic.co.uk/steve...1001albums.htm and look at the list online.

But for the most part (90% at least) that list is utter ---> probably trumped up by some glue sniffing kids

... getting this back on topic. This is about the Capital Gold Chart as verified by the UK's official chart company.

I'm excited that "BOOH" was only narrowly pipped to the top spot by Queen. Hopefully with the release of Meat's new album and the promo surrounding it, "BOOH" sales will once again be given a big enough boost to reverse the position at the top!

It's also interesting to note that Meat has an album in that chart from each decade since the release of BOOH up to the 90's. It's time for this decade's entry!

And with only an album of Queen that did beat him; he could have done worse...Considering the fact it is a UK chart and Queen is from the UK.

Didn't Bat sell over 35 million copies or is this just in the states?

Actually, that's what I was referring to...to me it was amazing that in UK by the statistics I know BOOH was the best selling debut album ever. Which means that it was ahead of Beatles...kind of mind boggling. I am not sure these statistics still stand but now I understand that place number 2 after Queen is certainly a great honor in these new statistics.

I guess they base it on sales and not on originality
