The piano / vocal version is light years beyond this arrangement, this one is too pop for me. I've never found a decent recording of that one, sadly. There's a live version of that on Youtube, from some awards night thing, but it's separated over two or three videos and it's missing the last third of the song

Brilliant, brilliant song

I don't like this version, but song itself it's brilliant. When I've first heard it my first thought was that it's perfect song for Meat to sing

Don't think the arrangement is that bad.
When I hear songs like this I often wonder why Steinman did the music only and lyrics only musicals. No one can top either part in my opinion. He's so much better off tackling both himself.

AndrewG - the arrangement is (in my opinion) very bad.

never liked that version, too mellow. I love the version I posted. I think the arrangements fine.

Though Justin on piano + Meat only version until the bug band segment towards the end would be awesome. Along with Patti wailing on the backing vocals like the awesome soul woman she is!

Yeah but that isn't Rob Evan. No offense to the guy but the original was way better and I'd go as far to say I much prefer the pop esque version as well to it.

Indeed. String it out to 8 minutes and you have the trilogy complete: FCOL, LITD, WPOMBHTM

I hope meat gets to record it, I have always said to myself this is the song that will put him back in the mainstream.

We could agree (probably) in one point - Meat's version (if it happens) will be wonderful!

I have to admit, this song blew me away at the Musical.

I hadn't heard it before the musical but it was full of emotion and they both did a brilliant version, in my opinon, much better than anything on youtube

It always was my favourite "lost" track of Jim's - if only Bat 3 had turned out different eh - but Rob and Sharon absolutely take it to another level.

Definitely looking forward to the cast album for a studio recording of it.
