Default 27. Modern Girl

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

Modern Girl (6-7)

It isn't the best song of this album. I don't understand why has it been changin' to the Very Best Of by Meat Loaf. I think it isn't so good. The music is "kind", the lyrics is a little bit simple. Where is the deep feeling?
I couldn't find it.
I've heard better Jacobs's and Durkee's song...

My score: 6-7

Average: 7.44 (67/9)

A great song. But i think you never heard it live WOH, that is great. Some great drums at the start. If I listen to the lyrics I always think of a cartoon, don't know why. So typical American.

Ofcourse a 9!!!

I have heard live version in Live At Wembley CD. But I hold my opinion.
Maybe my problem is that I listened it at first in Hits Out Of Hell. It doesn't seem a typical Meat-song on this album. And maybe my another problem that you said it's a typical american song...

Super rock 'n' roll song, one of the best Paul Jacobs and Sarah Durkee songs. A little simple lyrics, but when you hear it live it is super. Especially the Bottom Line 1985 version and the Live at Wembley version are very great.

My score: 8/9

I think this is a stab at "moral" America.
The way I read the lyrics,is that it used to be very clean cut people (a bit like Brad and Janet in Rocky Horror) getting married and settling down as responsible members of the community. But they still managed to wreck things(so did Brad and Janet).Maybe because they were so uptight.
This song says i'm not gonna play that way. We're not Mr and Mrs perfect(beutiful miss America or Mr right),but without your hangups we can make the world better("Won't Be Makin' The Mistakes Our Fathers Made").
However,it's not one of my favorite Meat songs.
5/10 Between the past and something dawning new.

This is one of the most contradictory song of Meat! Somebody love it, others hate! I'm interesting others' opinions! Come on!

To me it is the best song ont he album. The melody is great, the lyrics are wonderful and the intro is so simple but very effective. The song gets never boring. A true classic. 9/10

I like the song, but I don't love it! It's far better live, in my opinion.
I'll give the album version a 6.

I really like this song. A very solid effort. One of the few non- JS songs I can give a ten. This song could have been on Bat II and it would not have sounded out of place.
10/10

Anybody can tell me Modern Girl was on Bad Attitude or Hits Out Of Hell at first time? Which album had come out before?

This was the first single off of the Bad Attitude album, made a brief appearance in the UK charts (somewhere in the top 10 I think, but can't be 100% sure on that), and the video was banned by the BBC apparently. The track appeared the following year on Hits Out Of Hell.

This is one of the first songs I ever heard from Meat. Thatīs why I appreciate this song. The lyrics are nice and I like those drums (Are they electronic drums?)

I give: 8/10

One of my 1st songs too... heard it on Hits Out of Hell. I'm not too impressed by the lyrics, maybe coz it's too American.... but I like the overall feel to it.
I'll give it a 8/10.

Well the first song I ever heard was Paradise. I didn't know what to make of it...twice as long as every other song on the radio and all that panting...I was just a horny teenager lol. But true to my way getting into Steinman songs, it grew and it has to be one of my favorites :)

Kudos to Johnnie Walker on BBC Radio 2 last night. It's not often Meat Loaf gets airplay on a national radio station these days, it's even rarer that when he does get airplay it's something not from one of the Bat albums.

Just afetr 5.30 last night we were treated to Modern Girl .... had forgotten how much I like this song it's so long since I've listened to it!!

Nice one Johnnie
