Having already planned a wedding that never happened, and realised just how much stuff there is to do and organise, I would hate for all of that to get in the way of the focus of the occasion, which is the marriage itself. By all means, as it sounds like Pud has done, i'm all for celebrating it as much as possible...but I still think that in the long run the only important thing is that you're committing to spend the rest of your life with the person that you love. I hope that doesn't sound like I'm getting at anyone here because that's not what I mean to do, I'm just putting across my opinion...and at the end of the day it's the wedding of the two persons getting married, and not anybody that does or doesn't attend, so do what you want. and if that's to hold the reception at KFC or the Ritz, it's up to you.

Quoted for truth

The end of the day, it's the MARRIAGE that's important, not the celebration.
I would be just as happy to go to the nearest registry office, get married, and then get the bus home to have our tea in front of the telly.

I'm sure Jo would have something to say about that

I went to a CRACKING wedding last year which was not too OTT.
The bride and groom hired a hall, everyone brought alcohol, one of our friends brought her karaoke rig, and we all had a bloody good pi$$ up.

As a bonus, outside this church hall there was a kiddies playground.
Call me a bad influence, but it wasn't long before me and the groom were on the swings seeing who could swing higher
There is footage of this, and i'm glad i've never seen it

Everyone thought my sister would do something like that and I'd be the normal one with a basic wedding, guess they got us confused. Besides only in Vegas you can have Elvis, Marlyn, James Dean, Cher, Joan Rivers, and the Rat Pack marry you. Plus they have the theme weddings as well like Star Trek, Mafia style, Western, Star Wars, or just the basic wedding, I think they even do UFO weddings as well.

They do all kinds of fantastic things there...Yeah, this would have been a dream come true for me for sure!!! Hope when the time comes, you'll do something sufficiently cheesy and fun!

The service was at a register office then we all piled over to the pub belonging to another of my aunt's, stayed there for a few hours then went back to the happy couple's house and fired up the BBQ...it was really casual and so far from anything I'd have thought of, but for a couple of their age it worked wonderfully
My hubby and I did something similar, we married when my eldest was just under two weeks old, so I'd bought my red velvet wedding dress when I was seven months pregnant, and yes, it fitted perfectly! We went to the registry office in Cambridge, got married and then went looking for a pub for a drink... I think there were less than a dozen guests altogether... After that it was home to get changed, then round a mate's house for a Chinese, and I have to say the day was much better than the first one, which was the full Church do with the meringue dress, bridesmaids, full blown reception with first dance and speeches... Not only did it cost less than £250 total, but I actually remember everything and didn't get stressed out of my mind on the day...

Instead of a Vicars & Tarts party, you could have a Meat & Bonnie one. All the blokes dress as Meat (obviously) and all the blokesses dress as Bonnie from the 80's. You could get the DJ to dress up as Steinman

I have never seen a Meat loaf or Steinman dressed up person before. It'd be different but that's not something we see everyday if you go to the chinese theater in Cailforina your likely to see Sponge Bob, Superman, Batman, and Marlyn possing for pictures.

MAn, my butt is dragging got 100 of the programs backs done at the moment and just starting the fronts right now. Then I have to re do it all over again from the beginning. My sister waited till 1:30 am to get it going she is staying the night and sleeping behind me since she has to get up at 7 to go and get her hair done for the wedding. Keeping with tradion she and her boyfriend can't see each other so that's why she is camping out behind me. I'll be lucky if I get to bed around 4 am this morning. So if anyone wants to chat or say do so since I'll be online for a bit :P .

I SURVIVED! I made it through my sisters wedding, the chruch, the hall, the food, dancing, drunks, annoing DJ, and wanting to beat up the photographers who where getting in everyone's shot. Now I want to crash since I got the programs all done at 5:30 in the morning yesterday and been up today since 10 am. Hope you all had a good day to and wanted to smack alot of annoying people as well. I'll talk more when I have the feeling back in my feet and some much needed rest.

Let's see the photographers hit the Best man's parents car and left the scene in front of witnesses at the hall. Had 3 cops show up 2 and a half hours later to do the report. The DJ was a last minute one and didn't follow the songs my sister had laid out, or the stuff that was suppose to be down. Wanted to throw up after eating cake that had fondint frosting on it cause it was so sweet and didn't sit to well on my stomach. In all had a good time will post a few pics after I get some rest and all.

Wedding started at 3 but since my dad was part of it had to be up there around noon for pictures. The flower girl was up there as well and was out by 10 pm at night, no nap since the wedding ended at 4 the photographer keep taking pics for 2 1/2 hours. Plus my sister didn't get to go to the park and get the outdoor shots she wanted. Right now my sister and brother in law (still feels weird saying that one) are heading down south to Dollywood or to go to Ben & Jerry's factory for there honeymoon.
