Have the whole collection and have been reading it in order. It's the only way it can be done!

Pride and Prejudice by Ms. Jane Austen

May I quote this very funny little scene between Mr. Bennet and his missus:

Mrs. Bennet: "You take delight in vexing me. You have no compassion on my poor nerves."
Mr. Bennet: "You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these twenty years at least."

I love Jane Austen, there was another similarly funny scene in Sense and Sensibility when she described how a mother spoils her little girl with marmalade every time she gets mad. Wonderful.

thanks for those bits Bubbles... i haven't a clue why but i was never "forced" to read the classics in school !! ... all i really remember was trying to decipher Shakespeare ! ... lol ... not good at it was i i'm afraid... lol ... i think the best time in English class i had may have been in ... hmmm ... 9th grade maybe ?? ... Basil Douglas Anderson ... omy ... was my teacher... from Boston ... with that JFK accent ... and we'd just lost JFK... BDA encouraged us to write stories of our own ... i remember writing one of my experience in a cave at the shore ... he called me to his desk after class... and told me how much he enjoyed it ... that he felt he had been right there... lol ... and... here ... it was a work of fiction on my part... lol ...

anyroad... thanks again ... i'll look up Jane Austen next time i'm to the Salvation Army store ... i pick up alot of good books there including classics for near to naught !!! ...

oh... and PS ... all my life i've loved to read.... so... lol ... reading for an English class would never have been a problem on my part ... as long as it wasn't Shakespeare ...

I somewhat liked Shakespeare....I found it cool that he had a language of his own

but he is a tough read, yep

Yes, i can only recommend Jane Austen.....though I have to say that I haven't read my german edition of Sense and Sensibility until some months ago

got it some 3 or 4 years back for my birthday and couldn't stand to read more than 3 pages......well, you grow mature I guess

I just finished a beautiful book by Jennifer Haigh - Mrs. Kimble.

My most highest recommendations to this book...

I should re-read Shakespeare...I've finished reading him in all his glorious entirety by the time I was 17....
