I avoided the computer and my phone all day, so I had not seen this post prior to watching the Ellen interview.

Now reading this post, I say you pulled off many things well. If you were irked because of what the show did, I think your professionalism out-shined whatever you may have been feeling inside.

Example: after watching the interview, I addressed my texts on my phone. My sister in law (who saw you at Disney Grad Night of a few minutes ago ) texted me, Hey tell me you saw Ellen today. Meat was on and he has the greatest personality.

Hallelujah, Jesus, finally she's woken up after 17 years of knowing her.

You handled the "old news" great, you explained it, you took ownership, you've moved forward and you've let the audience know it. I loved hearing about "Standing in the Storm" 's progress. I also think you are a very giving person to interview. You give so much information on one question, you make it really easy for the interviewer (they may as well be a totem pole holding a mic).

Anyway, it may not have been the most comfortable interview for you, but it wasn't as bad as you think either.

Well said, yeah I definitely agree with you Suzieq, I think he handled it really well, he was very humble and honest about it, and got to plug the single too, and you can tell he's a great guy by taking the high road. I'm sure all these interviews and CA will pay off for him :)

I've just watched his interview thanks to Vicki and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Whilst I don't like the focus on Meat's moment with Gary, I thought he handled it very well and I have so much respect for him in admitting where he was in the wrong.
Meat's the perfect guest for shows like this, he's polite, he gives such great answers and he's got a great sense of humour. A lot of people I know who see him on this sort of shows have commented about what a great guest he is.

Suzie, my sister made a comment after watching Celebrity Apprentice a couple of weeks ago that she really thought Meat seemed like a really sweet guy and she wanted to give him a hug when he was crying. I'd been telling her how lovely he is for months but I suppose she needed to see evidence. Anyway, she told me that although she may not be a fan of his music, she's become a fan of him as a person.

I think there are a lot of good things to have come out of Celebrity Apprentice, most notably the money he has raised for his charity but also raising the profile of that charity, the fact that he seems to have made some great friends and also there's the fact that more people are relating to him as a person and not just that guy who sings 'Bat Out of Hell'.

Well done, Meat, you did a GREAT job! If you were feeling uncomfortable, no-one would have known it! You were very gracious, as always.

My mother watched Meat on Ellen yesterday afternoon and had an interesting point, after I had been ranting about how ellen "ambushed him with the whole Gary thing". I tend get a little dramatic when I get upset - LOL! She said that Ellen didn' seem her usual self during the interview and that maybe Ellen was just as surprised as Meat was about the whole Gary clip being shown. Maybe the producers of her show kinda sprung that on her last minute as she was introducing him. Just a thought!
My mom has definitely become a fan of Meat's as a person. She thinks he is sweet, hard working, a gentleman, caring and has his heart in the right place. Even she agreed, as do I, that it was a great interview on his part and he handled the whole conversation about the Gary thing with honesty dignity and a great sense of responsibility! She even said that she will definitely buy me the Standing In The Storm single when it comes out especially since the money goes to charities! If my mom thought it was a good interview then it had to have been awesome.

Yeah Ellen definitely wasn't her usual self, she's usually much more relaxed and funny. I think Meat did a great job of steering the interview where he wanted to go, because obviously the studio had done a not-so-great job of it.

I know Ellen has a YouTube channel where she posts stuff from her show. I know the Meat interview is on there. I am not 100% sure if it is the full interview though

That's exactly what I'm experiencing too. People have "known" that I'm the major fan in my family or inner circle of friends. I treated my older sisters to a concert in NY over the summer last year, they met him and now they are like "whoa". But since celebrity apprentice, I have people calling/texting me saying....OMG Suzanne, he's so ______________ (fill in the kind words here). I just keep saying yeah, thanx, SEE I'm not nuts.

Agree! The image is strong with that of BOOH. People still relate...big boned manic long haired sweaty guy with a red handkerchief. Now they see what we've been seeing all along as followers of his career. And overall, people do like what they see.

I know Meat said he won't do a reality show again, but like a painful birth....he may forget the negatives as the payoff for The Painted Turtle is realized.

I agree Suzie. I must admit I was a bit wary after reading Meat's post and was expecting the worst, but I thought he handled himself with grace and dignity. He took responsibility and admitted he was in the wrong and embarrassed by his behaviour and managed to promote the new single for charity too. I'm hoping that single is going to be available to buy overseas too, given it's for charity, it should be. I look forward to hearing it.

Thanks, Vickie (and Adje), I did see that post earlier in the thread- but, is that the whole thing? It seems edited (only 1:43).

It's definately not the whole interview. I think it's just the highlights.

I think Ellen would have much prefered an In Depth 1 on 1 interview with KD Lang.

I am getting fed up of this Gary thing, it's been what it has been, I think the tv networks need to get over this now.

I understand what you say, and yes, I too would like to see it consigned to history .. on the other hand, despite being wrong-footed by them showing the wretched clip when he'd been told they wouldn't, I'm sure he's canny enough to expect it will be mentioned in interviews in the short term .. particularly on this occasion, when he seemed to be there mainly to promote CA and the song they've recorded for their charities.

To me it's a useful way of Meat responding to the several appearances Busey did when he simply rode the incident for personal publicity Meat was there to promote something other than himself, but when it was brought up presented himself so well, just as he did on other similar shows, that he does much to correct the impression of him that the edited show, reinforced by Busey's appearances, gave. He's a veteran in the business, and I'm sure knows he has some damage redress to undertake; not hopefully to his loyal fans, but to a wider and more general audience. Yes, it does need to become a one-off that gradually stops attracting comment, but it's good imo that Meat gets to show his class and what a thoroughly decent man he is, through appearances like this (when he got a very positive reaction from the audience), and in interviews with the media. And when CA comes to en end, it will imo lose most of it's attraction to internet boards, bloggers etc
