Don't know what to think of that appearance. I'm probably the only person here who doesn't think it's funny (except maybe for the moment when Meat goes down).

In the end, I think the WWE appearance was great and did it's job. It's being talked about and helps the album. Many celebrities have been on WWE to promote their projects. It's the same thing as a print ad in a music magazine or going on Today or Fox News. Good for Meat Loaf for having fun, plugging the album and allowing me to have a good laugh (and make fun of another fan).

Meat said earlier in this thread:
Quote:
He played his part wonderfully .. he could have BEEN one of those managers who jump in the ring to wind their wrestlers up. This was our coaching sports-lover Meat at his peak! I think he had fun and enjoyed it, it was a shrewd move to reach millions and make them aware he has a new album out and he punched out more information than I'd have thought possible whilst waiting for his nemesis. It's years since I watched any wrestling, and I've never watched it USA style, but to me he fell like a tyro. Can't help feeling that to have been up in the ring, promoting in trash-talk style, and pulling off a fall like that might be one of Meat's treasured moments, if not the realisation of a secret ambition Caryl |

Also, the people fearing for Meat's safety/health...he puts his body through more than that every time he does a concert. |

Yes, he's a grown up now........ he can choose to do something like this if he wishes, in controlled circumstances such as this, now if on the other hand, in the extremely impossible chance he was in a match, now there would be reason to worry lol. But this is just Meat having fun promoting HIS album. At least he wasn't doing cartwheels lol. He does more damage to himself doing those than a controlled stunt with a professional, whom must have completed that move how many 100's of times?

Thanks wizardofodd....I'm glad Meat felt "cool" about being RKO'd. There are some people that would love to be part of a finisher.

I thought the segment started off really well (apart from the bizarre choice of Paradise as Meat's theme, Bat would've much more of a kick to it)
The "Randy Orton" screaming bit was good as well but to me it started to go downhill from the second he held the cd upside down, never a good thing for live tv when trying to promote your product It just went on a bit too long and trying to sell Elvis in Vegas with such a slow build up in the intro just wasn't going over well at all. Orton was Orton, a much better character then he has been in years and the best part being that he has a steely eyed look of determination and says very little which in terms of television is a great character to have for the intensity alone. I suppose if it helped to sell even one copy it was worth it, but I can see why people were upset at Meat being there. To some it can seem like he is flogging himself out in desperation; to me I saw it as promotion but the photo and interview afterwards were all really good imo. Well I thought it came across as Meat having fun and going along with it and acting the part, which he does so well.

I'm with you on this. It looked like the actions of someone desperate to do anything to promote an album. Will be interesting to see if his appearance = sales.

Now, I will confess to being a wrestling fan, so to see Meat walk down the ramp and step into the ring was just priceless. I did not think that it came across as desperate at all, it seemed more fun and lighthearted (except for the RKO, which Meat took pretty well). All in all I thought it was a good way to reach a large audience. Meat walked out playing a loud heel character, and he played it well, kudos to Meat for trying new things with promotion.

When you feel passionately about something, like Meat Loaf feels about this album, you will do anything to promote it. It's not like he channeled the Sham Wow guy and is doing infomercials at 2am on SPIKE. Damn, he's promoting an album people! He's marketing his product. And...if I ever get the chance to be on a WWE program, let me state for the record, I want to take an RKO, Pedigree and Sweet Chin Music in that order!!!!
