I agree, Sin, but they still ARE his record company and we do want them to at least push the album. If we anger them too much, then, who knows...

But there has to be a way to just voice our complaints or voice our differences of opinion.

Yes???

Yeah - true.
But you all do not want to force this from a forum/thread where he asked explicitly for help!

Is it that difficult?

I don't see any problem with writing to Mercury and saying one is amazed that on trying to get one's local radio station to play the single one has been told that Mercury haven't supplied a copy and that they aren't pushing the it, as it's such a great song and such great value etc etc.

This is fact .. because we are being told this, and as fans we are surprised. No hate mail, just puzzlement and wondering why, and can't they get copies to the stations so that it gets on the playlist.

Seems fair to me

Caryl, i see what you mean.

But please - read the first ten posts in this thread.
Do you really want the company to read this? I bet not.

Hi! I just edited out that entire message. This is time to slow down and think carefully!

We are all hot under the collar because we just found out about it. But in reality, it's not news. Meat has known it and has been fighting it from the beginning.

Even if we take this info elsewhere--to other sites and lists, a campaign against Mercury will make them wonder about it. And since this site is listed on the album, they will come here! They will SEE Meat's request. They will see what we're doing here.

It's NOT good, friends! Let's relax. Let's take a deep breath and keep talking about it.

Okay?

I think you and I were posting at the same time R.

I know Meat asked for our help, but I don't see that expressing surprise and concern about not being able to get the single played because it hasn't been sent to radio stations will harm Meat .. in fact I can't see how Mercury could do more harm to the single than they've done so far, and they do seem to be wanting the album to sell.

And would he want to use them again? His next album he says will be BOOH3 .. and one would hope it wouldn't be too hard to find a company who wanted to handle that and promote it to the hilt.

(okay, here goes yet another overuse of a song title......ARE YOU READY???)

I couldn't have said it better....

There is one thing to help out Meat, and there is another to start harrassment type of actions.

I take R's ;oint, I understand what he said, and have never advocated harrassment. But lobbying is I think fair, as is expressing puzzlement. And if the company decide to read the posts here they will see some very angry ones last week when the record was not available.

Well just a update when calling into Cribbs Causeway in Bristol,
Virgin have sold out of the album and i couldn't find the single on the shelves, they actually recommended HMV who had 3 copies left on the shelf when i got there, the single only had 1 copy left on the shelf in HMV today.

sorry got cut off..really bad conection tonight

I see what you mean R. we don't want it linked back to here or anything bordering on harrassment. I am just going to express my opinion once to each If another single is released from the album hopefully it will have some more promotion before hand. Meat has been getting himself seen and the song sung on some tv and radio I wonder who got these slots for him? would have that been the record company?

Freddy..way to go ...that is GOOD NEWS

Wow! This is tough, friends and we HAVE to get it right!! We cannot take a chance on hurting Meat!!

So, let's all take another deep breath and decide NOT to go to Mercury! Not to push our people, our friends and supporters there!

Instead it is a MUCH better idea to continue to do what we are doing here, but harder!! It is VITAL now that we help Meat sell as many singles as he can!!!!!!

Do you understand? It's taking me a long time to put this all together and I apologize for being slow and stupid right now.

The BEST way to get to Mercury is to PROVE THEM WRONG! WE know that Meat can sell ANYTHING!!! Let's work harder than ever to sell these singles!! That will show Mercury that they are totally WRONG!!

Yes? Are we agreed now. We must NOT hit Mercury as much as we all desperately want to. It will (could) come back and hurt Meat. And none of us here want that!!

Silence....NOW you've all got me worried.

Please, everyone, try to think beyond this moment! That's what's been hard for me and that's why I got it wrong before. And I DID get it wrong!!

PLEASE write in and let me know that you understand what I'm trying to say. Or share whatever other thoughts you have. This is TOO important to take a chance on messing up!!

Mercury is NOT the issue. The issue right here and right now is selling singles for Meat! It is the ONLY thing that matters and it is the ONLY way to get back at Mercury for their stupid policy!! We must prove them wrong!!

Please write in and talk to me!!

I say give it a chance and just do what we've been doing. Phoning and e-mailing the radio stations. The Album will sell well and Meat will get into the top 10 I just know he will, Lets just hope its number 1

Well, let's move on to the important issues here:

Freddy--sorry to have taken so long to respond to such good news!!!!

The albums, the singles are selling everywhere! And hopefully, sellling OUT everywhere!

Freddy, you couldn't have brought all of us better news if you had tried!!

Are you hearing CHSIB being played on the radio in your area?

Keep us up to date on how it's going there. Okay?

This is wonderful and welcome news this afternoon!!!!

How's it going in your area of the country? Are the singles and CDs readily available now? I know you were having problems getting them for a while!

Hi all!!

just thought I'd check in with what info I have.

Unfortunately, the album didn't seem to be available in the large HMV at Meadowhall - BUT I could be wrong. It gets busy in there and they stock a LOT of albums. In the same shop there were 3 copies of the single on the shelf @ no. 31.

Better news is that in WHSmith's album chart, Meat Loaf was at no. 15, and there were no copies left on the shelf! Woo Hoo!!

As to getting the single airplay, I've been emailing radio stations but so far have had no response. I've also placed a message on the Yahoo Pool site, which would reach about 100 people in each room. I know its not much, but its something new to try, right....?

Has there been any response from Meat yet, regarding the chart positions, plans of action, etc?

Right, off to bed. Work tomorrow. D'oh!!

Yours

mike

Hi everyone.
First of all my apologies in the delay in this post I promised. There was nothing I could do on Sunday, and after doing four shows in three days,I was just too tired to do anything with any thought yesterday.(I did post this before, but as soon as I pressed submit everything went haywire ).
There seems to be some misunderstanding on my post asking people to stop talking about meet and greets.
I was very excited when I first read Meat's post asking for help. And yes,not just for the thrill of being able to personaly respond to a plea for help from meat, but for the prospect of a M&G.I don't think there is anyone who's heart didn't beat a little faster on reading that ,and had to read the post again because they thought their eyes must be lying too them .
I didn't mind people talking about M&Gs at first,in fact you might notice that I was one of the first (if not THE first) to mention it.
Later on though, there were some posts that I thought were very blunt. They were basically saying I've bought five copies WHERE IS MY MEET AND GREET.If you take the time to read back you might see what I mean.I thought this was rather tactless. Now I am not saying that this was in any way intentional.I know everybody must be quite rightly very excited (hell, who isn't),but although it was Meat himself who mentioned meet and greets,I did not want him to read any of these posts and think that was all we were interested in.That would be a travesty against everyone who has worked so hard with the sole intention of getting him a decent chart position in a disasterous situation.
I agree that money has nothing to do with this what so ever.Of course we don't have bottomless pockets (which is something I keep telling my bank manager, but he never listens ). I bought seven copies, some people bought more some people bought less, but that is not important. What is important is the hard work, dedication and team work displayed by the people here .
That is why I asked EVERYBODY to stop talking about M&Gs.Meat has promised M&Gs and everyone is ENTITLED to one,but having people jumping in saying bought copies now how do I get my M&G befoe disapearing never to be seen again, was bringing down the work of people who have worked damn long and hard to try and make this work.
You'll never know how close I came to turning down a M&G,because it would break my heart for Meat to think that that is the only reason I was helping .You don't need to take my word for this, you can ask any of the other moderators, who I contacted over this dilema. They have been very suportful, for which I am very grateful. If a M&G is offered (and I don't believe Meat will go back on what he has said),then I will accept it with many thanks as a dream come true.If Meat is too busy, then I,like most (if not all) will be disapointed ,but still proud that I was able to help.

I hope that this explains what was meant in my earlier post.If anybody feels the need to respond to what is written here,or has any questions please feel free to contact me by PM.There are more importaint things to discuss on the forums.

Everybody has done great this work this week.We have been lucky enough for some of our friends from abroad helping us in any way they can.To everybody both at home and abroad, well done.
Meat must be very proud the way his fans have teamed up to give this single the boost it needed and deserved.Meat Loaf fans trulely are the best in the world .
Best regards.
Neil

Default Let me get this clear

Has it been decided that emailing/phoning Mercury is not a good idea?

We do not need to harrass them. In fact, only one person (heat?) needs to ask them what the situation is, and why they're not pushing the single (if that is true). A campaign is another issue entirely. But perhaps if it can be shown that the single DOES have a realistic chance of doing well in the charts, maybe Mercury will change their minds (if the hypothesis that they don't think its worth pushing is correct).

While all this is going on, I'm more worried about the situation in New Zealand. I called Universal (who are distributing the album here) on the phone. They seemed very happy to help me, and said the album is likely to be released on May 8, but they know nothing about the single. The way things are going here, I'm not sure if it will make the charts at all.

Ah, F.M.--beautifully stated!! Thanks for saying it! I'm so glad you changed your mind!

You know how I feel about you. And much love to Carol!

And Mike--welcome back! Number 15 on the WHSmith album chart already!! Great!! I wonder how often that is updated. Anyone know? Please keep checking on that for us and keep us informed. Okay?

Was WHSmith also selling the single, Mike, or just the album? Wonder if they have a chart for singles, as well??

Let's hope the HMV you went to was sold out as some of them have been.

Gotta get those 3 singles sold, though! Any in the Meadowhall area, go to the HMV and get them OFF those shelves!! Right, guys!! :P

I thought your Yahoo idea was excellent! And it's one that has NOT been proposed here yet. So, good job! And a good idea!!

Meat's busy right now getting ready for the promo concert in Amsterdam tomorrow. There are a LOT of happy ML fans there now!! Wish I could be there, too. Don't you?!

Hey, Mike, thanks for the good word today! And keep checking in with us, will ya?!!

I'm glad I went looking for Mercury because I wrote to the organisation which listed them, Soundgenerator.com, who have said they will review the single on their site if they can have a copy :)

Amazing news, dear friends!!

Look what was spotted in the General forum a few moments ago:

From meatloafisgod:

Quote:
... Top of The Pops features Meat Loaf singing Couldn't Have Said it Better this Friday night, 7.30 BBC1, it is repeated a couple of days later - need to check that one!

I can confirm this as BBC Ceefax have a page for TOTP where they put this weeks guests on and what song they are performing. Robbie Williams is also performing and I think Blur as well.

Okay, guys! Who's giving the first BIG CHEER!!!!!!

HE GOT THERE!!!!!

ps. But PLEASE don't stop buying the albums and singles!!!!
We're still concerned about the charts on Sunday, remember!!!

Let's get this man and this song AND this album to Number ONE, where they belong!!
And TOTP is going to help with that!!

Way to go, FireBall!!
We couldn't be happier for you!!!!
