Didn't Jim get Meat to do something like 112 takes on the opening line of AFL... I remember reading that somewhere. If its true then I can understand his reluctancy to get in a studio with Jim!

Yeah there are stories of Producers who work to absolute perfection in order to get it right.

The story goes about Mutt Lange then when a fiddler playing on a Shania Twain song asked to take a break Lange replied why? Only for the fiddler to say 'You ever had to keep one of these(fiddle) under your chin for 6 hours!'

I thought the reluctancy was that it could have taken years waiting on Jim..nothing to do with their working relationship....and i cant imagine Meat letting anyone..even Jim treat him like that..but wtfdik

I could imagine both Jim being like night to get exactly the right note and Meat being fed up with recording like that but at the same time knowing that the songs he sings sound better when written by Jim Steinman

check out the British awards live version. He sings it exactly like the album, but with more feel.

Couldn't have told you anything about the differences about keys from
Live and Album performances but Live I want it to be different and it's
something I've always liked about Meat live are the differences.

If it took 112 takes to get the start of AfL, no wonder we've never heard it the same Live!

I've noticed on the studio version of ILFY he sings the opening lines "I'd never tell you one lie, I'd never let you down" in a similar fashion to the studio AFL "And I would do anyting for love, I'd run right into hell and back..." Wouldn't be surprising since Lie For You is somewhat of a nod to Anything For Love. The first lines of LFY live are also sung deeper than on the record (also in the key of C but I'm more refering to the tone of voice) on the Beacon Theatre and Hard Rock Live (I never heard any of the other live versions) as with Anything For Love live. Has anyone else noticed this?
