thanks Pud.

I should've known you would have the answer! :)

I'm new to the forums (but not the music) and have read a lot of informative posts by you (over at Rockman too).

You're talking about Susan! She appeared out on nowhere and started rambling on about Jim Steinman being a cat that's what promted the board being changed to a registered one if you want to post. By all accounts this Susan's ISP traced back to California, who'd have though she came from the land of fruits and nuts

thanks for the info on Rockman. I'd probably be in over my head over there. I think Jim is a phenomenal writer, but I don't know as much background info as a lot of the others

I have a copy of the video on a TV programme (cann't remember which) video tape, just need to find which one of the 100 hours I have!

I hope to be in receipt of a DVD/video recorder for Xmas so if you can hold on that long - I'll willing search it out for you and place on DVD....

So you actually have the Dead Ringer movie? not concert but the actual movie - holy crapsticks If you can convert it to DVD, I don't mind running off some copies and shipping them out. However, if you've been naught this year and Santa doesn't give you a DVD/Video recorder, I know some people who could convert it for you and I'd still run off some copies and ship them out.

I think they're talking about the movie called "Dead Ringer" that Meat filmed in 1981, not the music video he filmed with Cher. The movie itself was never officially released.

For those who've seen is... what exactly was the movie about? Was it a full fledged movie with a story and all or just one of those short ones regarding the song/album, but a bit more than a music video.

Somebody on IMDB.com has given a review of the film, which I will kindly cut and paste here.

Quote:
Dead Ringer is a combination of real concert footage mixed with a fantasy story line, revolving around the immense and immensely popular singer. Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman fans will certainly derive the biggest pleasure from this film.

Meat Loaf's first album, ''Bat Out of Hell,'' was a mega-success, selling more than 11 million copies. This large, talented, sweaty singer hit the scene like a tank out of hell and the fans loved him. Now, several years later and about to go on the road again to promote his new album, Meat Loaf starts to feel the stress of success. His production office looks like a war zone and none of his ''people'' are listening to him. His two agents are either on the phone or playing Space Invaders (remember that?) while pretending to be taking meetings. Meanwhile, his manager keeps booking Meat Loaf for interview after interview, slowly driving the singer insane. The highlight of the film, in fact, is MacIntyre Dixon, who plays Ernie Weaver, a slightly vacuous, enormously patient New York interviewer trying to discover the true ingredients of this Meat Loaf, and believing every false word his subject tells him.

Elsewhere, seemingly in some perpendicular universe, are Russell (Josh Mostel) and his nerdy brother, Marvin (Meat Loaf), who not surprisingly bears an uncanny resemblance to his idol, Meat Loaf. It seems that Marvin never talks, but he can belt out a Meat Loaf tune as well as the original. When they learn that the great one is going on tour, they make it their lives' mission to find and maybe, hope against hope, even meet Meat.

The rest of the film interweaves the separate stories as Russell and Marvin follow the band across the country, just missing them at every turn. It is all, to say the least, an uneven hodgepodge that is consistently hit and miss.

There are several funny bits in addition to Ernie the interviewer. There's a Napoleonic punk security guard who harasses anyone trying to get close to Meat Loaf. This one-man riot act would beat away Meat's shadow if he could.

The concert footage is erratic, in that sometimes we'll only see a few seconds of a number, such as with ''Paradise by the Dashboard Light,'' and it's more of a tease than anything else. But watching and hearing Meat Loaf perform is a treat throughout. He has a great voice and a hypnotic stage presence, making one wish we could have seen him in concert back then. He also looks as comfortable in front of the camera as he does on stage.

''Dead Ringer'' is lively, but simple-minded fun. You may moan one or two times, but on the whole it's worth it.
I especially like the last bit but on the whole it's worth it shame you can't actually buy it to test that theory out

Sounds like one I would like to see! And yes, it is a shame we are not able to test if these lines are also our opinion...

Did anyone hear a reason why it never was released? Even better: if there is a chance it ever will??

Thanks Pud, I always wondered what the subject matter of the Dead Ringer" film was, and now I finally know. Just wish we all could have seen it...

If I'm not mistaken Ankie, I think Meat says in an interview from around that time, that because of the bankrupcy ect, he was going through, the government confiscated the film, and that's why it's never been released. < I could be wrong, that's what I remember though.

It would seem that the cheeky beggar on IMDB who gave the review, copied it from a review given By JEFF MENELL, which is actually on Jimsteinman.com

Default Dead Ringer movie?

just got the information from "to hell and back"

I thought it was never shown/released, but then I found reviews on IMDB.
Do you got any information about this movie? was it shown somewhere? Is it even available to buy?
As far as I know it´s not, but maybe you´ve got further information....

I think the best known scene from that movie is the part they took for the DRFL video clip....

I´d really be interested to see that movie...

According to Meat's autobiography the movie was shown once at the Toronto Film Festival.

A very short trailer with Meat and Josh Mostel was shown on The Old Grey Whistle Test in the '80s and also during the excellent BBC documentary series The Music Biz in 1995.
