You're talking about "To Hell and Back" (2000). It's never been released on DVD, but there are quite a few copies of the rental VHS circulating. Check Ebay, it pops up there now and again. Here for example.

Isn't that the movie that Meat said he would not even buy it himself. He thought it was crap and parts of it was not even correct. I think he was very mad about this movie.

As far as I remember, there were numerous chronological errors and I didn't like how whiny "Meat" appeared in certain parts of the movie. It's a rather short flick made for TV, so it focuses on a few things in his career that are presented in fast motion.
The actors do a good job and if you ignore the fact that the movie is supposed to be about Meat Loaf, you can regard it as an interesting drama - but if you are a fan or someone who expects to learn something about Meat Loaf you should rather avoid watching it.

Yes he was very disappointed with the movie in its final form.

But the autobiography is imo an excellent read David Dalton's brought a number of celebrity autoboigraphies into print, and does it extremely well I think .. In this one Meat's voice just leaps from the pages .. I thoroughly enjoyed it

I totally agree with you. I really enjoyed reading the book also. In fact I have probably read it about 15 times now. Each time I read it I get another view from it. I suggest reading the book.

while the movie isnt a cinematical gem I think every Meat Loaf fan shouldve seen it at least once.

Regarding the accuracy, I was actually quite impressed with the amount of little details they put in the movie. (him singing peel out as an actual song recorded later, etc). If you keep in mind they were on a budget they actually did a pretty good job at research. Sure some things are changed and taken out of context, but you have to expect that from a biopic for tv.

Oh I didn't suggest that someone not see the film. I saw it once and enjoyed it. I just said that Meat was pretty hacked off with the final version.

Now, were it an either or, I'd most certainly recommend the autobiography which has Meat leaping from every page.

I was speaking in general, not necessarily as a reply to your statement!
