Meat Loaf to paint the town red

Cher. Prince. Madonna. Meat Loaf.

These one-named wonders still pack in the fans.

The latter -- real name: Marvin Lee Aday -- is set to take the stage at Pompano Beach Ampitheatre on Saturday.

The 57-year-old Texan should be fine, though he acted loopy at a recent awards ceremony in London and was hospitalized for three days. His rep blamed it on meds he was taking for a torn retina as well as vertigo.
We chatted with the man responsible for such classics as Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Bat Out of Hell and Two Out of Three Ain't Bad before his England trip; here are some snippets:

So, really, why are you called Meat Loaf?

"I've been called Meat since I was a baby. I came out of my mother bright red. I just looked like meat.''

You've acted in almost 50 films. Have any favorite costars?

"Working with Brad Pitt on Fight Club -- well, you gotta understand he's Brad Pitt, so he's handicapped. Everyone wants his attention. He needs constant security. Some people have it and don't need it. He needs it. Ed Norton is a super intellect. You know those people where you have a conversation and you just kind of shake your head because you don't know what they're talking about? That's him.''

What's on your iPod right now?
"I hate it when you're old and can't remember anything. I have to look.

[He puts down the phone and asks his assistant.]

"The guy who used to be in Nirvana . . . Yes, yes, Dave Grohl. His band -- the Foo Fighters. Also you might find LL Cool J with some Billie Holiday and Tom Cochrane, Tabitha's Secret, the Goo Goo Dolls.''

Are you psyched to come to South Florida?

"Oh yeah, I hope it's not raining. I'm going on boat rides, play some scooter basketball, some bumper cars. I'm going to try to find Dan Marino -- he's a big Meat Loaf fan.''

Meat Loaf is a ONE named wonder?

I love the fact that the spell his name correctly as two words, and in the very next sentence say his name is one word
