Meat Loaf plans Tyneside charity concert

BAT out of Hell singer Meatloaf plans to hold a charity concert in Newcastle to apologise for walking off stage on his last visit to Tyneside.

Fans feared for the superstar rocker when his show in October last year was cut short after 70 minutes.

He told fans: “I take my coat off and thank you for 30 years.”

Yesterday Meatloaf told BBC Radio 2 that a cyst had silenced his vocal chords on the night, and then revealed that he was working on plans for a charity gig on Tyneside.

He told presenters Mark Radcliffe and Sally Lindsay: “I felt really bad for the people of Newcastle because the English laws are if you’re on stage longer than an hour you can’t get a refund.

“Nothing would come out. I said to them something about ‘I love all of you and thanks for the career, I’ll never set foot on the stage again or whatever – melodramatic crap’.

“I meant it at the time. I didn’t know what to do with myself. It was a cyst. Basically the cyst just stops the vocal chords from moving.

“I sat in the dressing room – I wouldn’t let anyone in. Security was trying to get me out of the building.

“Go away I’m not leaving ever. I’m not going. As we’re riding in a car over here again – they were taking emails or something – this guy wrote in and said ‘Why don’t you do a free concert in Newcastle?’

“We’re trying to come up with something, but I really want to do something for charity. I could go and do a free concert but all these people who didn’t have tickets would show up. You want to do something for the people who had tickets, or for the city of Newcastle.”

And another one from Digital Spy

Meat Loaf dreams of Eastenders role

Rocker Meat Loaf has revealed that he wants to star in EastEnders.

The 60-year-old told Heart that he is angling for a romantic role opposite Dot Branning (June Brown).

He said: "I love EastEnders, I do. I'd love to be on that show but what could I do? I'd tell you what would be good is if I turned up as this guy who dated Dot. I could come in and think she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

"I tell you, if I could pull that off it would be a hell of a performance and I could get any role in any movies I want."

The 'Bat Out of Hell' singer, who has appeared in Fight Club and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, also discussed his desire to scrap with Phil Mitchell.

"Phil Mitchell gets jealous that I'm dating [Dot] because he realises how much he loves her, then we get into this massive brawl over Dot and I kick his a** and I take over the Queen Vic.

"That would be my ideal storyline if I got a part on EastEnders. That would be great wouldn't it?"

I love Eastenders too, watch every episode but if Meat was on it, well, its would be 100x better..

I think TV Bosses need to think about adding him in somewhere along the line.

Loaf almost lost voice forever

By NADIA MENDOZA
Published: Today

BATTY rocker MEAT LOAF may have sold millions of records worldwide - but all he really wants is to play Dot Cotton's boyfriend in EastEnders.

The larger-than-life megastar reckons his wife would be chuffed if he popped up on the hit BBC1 soap.

He said: "My wife is a huge fan of the show, although in America we're about five years behind.

"When we come here she doesn't know what's going on, but it would make her very happy if I was in it.

"I could play Dot's boyfriend."

But it hasn't all been fun and games for the eccentric 60-year-old, who almost lost the ability to sing last year.

The Loaf - real name Michael Aday - said: "I had a cyst on my vocal chords. I had to leave the stage in Newcastle which was heartbreaking.

"We had to cancel about a month's worth of touring. I didn't know what was wrong.

"If you get laryngitis it's because you've gotten a cold or the flu, but nothing would come out. My voice just stopped.

"It was very odd. I was like a horse, I thought either pasture me or shoot me!"

And when Meat was finally diagnosed, the reality of surgery meant potentially giving up his career forever.

He said: "It was not comforting knowing what it was, as it's the same thing JULIE ANDREWS had and they performed surgery on her but she can never sing again.

"STEVEN TYLER has just had the surgery too and it's taken him a long time to recover.

"I was nervous about the whole prospect but I was lucky, the cyst popped. It just went away.

"It's not a process of cutting, it's a process of shaving and that's what happened to Julie Andrews when they shaved her vocal chords the doctor shaved too much.

"We're not like guitar players, if they break a string they can just replace it and keep going."

Despite embarking on an arena tour, the Bat Out Of Hell singer says he pays no attention to the adoration his fans throw at him.

He said: "You're only as good as your last moment. What you did in the past is all fine and good but it doesn't mean anything. It's only about what's going on right now.

"It's like if an actor winning an Oscar 20 years ago, yeah he's an Oscar-winner but it doesn't mean anything now unless he's kept up the artistic integrity of the Oscar to start with."

And in spite of his quirky personality, the self-confessed perfectionist says he is actually very shy.

He said: "When I go to a party I am a wallflower. I have no idea what to say to anybody. I'm so nervous at award shows. I've been to the Brits four or five times and I get so freaked out.

"It's the same at premieres. I went to one with TOM CRUISE, but didn't know what to say to him.

"I just kind of looked at him. I was introduced to him and he told me his favourite song was Paradise By The Dashboard Light. I went, 'Uh, huh' and just stood there.

"When I met JAMIE FOXX I actually said something to him and as I walked away I thought, 'God that was stupid'."

"I understand people may feel that when they talk to me, so when they come up and say, 'Oh I don't know what to say' I tell them whatever it is I won't take it as stupid, as I completely understand what they're going through."

But perhaps the most surprising thing about the Texan star is his interest in football team Hartlepool.

He said: "It started as a joke after I went on Soccer AM. I knew they were going to ask me if I was a footie fan, but I didn't want to say a Premier team like Manchester United or Liverpool.

"So I started looking at Divisions and researching the teams. I found out a monkey washed ashore in Hartlepool once and they hung it because they thought it was a Frenchman who was a pirate.

"I thought that's my team right there! And I found out they had a mascot who is a monkey called Angus and that's what I named my dog."

"I know how big their stadium is, how many homegames they won last year and they even sent me a scarf."

But footie aside, what is there left to achieve for a man of iconic and global recognition?

He added: "Every actor has a character they were born to play, but I still haven't had it, so I'm waiting on him."

i just couldnt see what they would do with him, i think he would have to dumb his talents down massively and be so understated he couldnt stand it, i cant think of anything he's done so far that would hint thhis would be a good thing. But hey ho, he knows what he's capable of, cant help but think that this was a tongue in cheek comment that was blown up though.
