Default 10. More Than You Deserve

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic. Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

More Than You Deserve (6)

I don't like this song. The music is too polite to me, like Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. The lyrics not so good, perhaps interesting. The song is too long. I have got the original version from the musical. It's very interesting. The best version is on the Live At Nassau Colisseum CD, when Jim Steinman is performing it. It's very-very good.

The video is very funny on the end, when Meat's step into the fast-food restaurant. The girl says inside: "Oh, it's crazy!" ... yes, it's crazy.

My score: 6

Average: 8.30 (124.5/15)

YOU DON't LIKE THIS SONG? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?

I think it's a great song. And like White Of High said, you san compare it with Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad. That's why I like it so much. Especially the Storytellers version is great. I didn't expect that Meat did that song on Storytellers, but he did, and it sounded great. Also the live version of Agora's Ballroom is great. Great guitarsolo in the middle. Jim's version is good, only both of this Meat versions are better.

Score: 8/9

It's also the first Steinman song Meat ever sang and if he didn't sing way back then we might not have Bat or Bat II so I think it deserves a lot of credit for that alone.

Great song.
I don't you can compare it to Two Out Of Three.Where 2/3 is a (what's the word i'm looking for) real? love song,More Than You Deserve is one of Jim's black comedys. If I had to compare it to anything,it would have to be Paradise.
That's not to say that Deserve isn't a love song,it is,but it'a comletley different message and attitude.
The lyrics are great and the story shows off Jim's twisted sence of humor perfectly.
I love the way Meat sings it,all through the song he stays pretty much in the same key,but that key change for the last chorus is fantastic.
Score??????Tricky.Great song, but he has done better,so i'm going to be critical.
8+1/2 /10 Deserves nothing less.

The song is good lyrically, the music is O.K. I don't love the 1981 version of it that well, but I love the 1973 RSO Records version and I also like the
version he did on "Meat Loaf Captures The World", it is a harder version.

Live at nassau Coliseum performed by Jim was pretty good though.

I give the 1973 version an 8/10
I give the 1977 Live version a 9/10
I give the 1981 version a 6/10

I really love this song because the chorus is so outrageous. I love the instrumental in the middle of the song, and the musical opening that Steinman again recycled on "The Future Ain't What It Used To Be". However, I have to say that I do prefer Jimmy's live version of this song.

Meat's version
9/10

Jimmy's live version
10/10

From the very first moment i love this song.
everything is great about it. The piano parts, the lyrics, the melody, the chorus, the guitars, the backing vocals, the humor. Meat's performs it very, very ,very well in spite of the different voice. Some 16 years ago my former girlfriend just loved this song.....
9/10.

One of the few ML songs that I have changed my opinion of after the first listen. I detest the Dead Ringer version. But after seeing and getting the Story tellers DVD I've had a big change of heart on this one.

Because of the Story tellers DVD it gets a respectable 8/10
which is eight times higher than I would give the Dead Ringer version.

I really love this song, and the story behind it.

My favourite bit is the "hook" at the end, where he says

"Now I think I'm gonna have to leave you,
because I'm feeling much to weak to share,
and the pie is cut in too many pieces,
the flavour that I crave is no longer there..."

It's beautiful and also funny - perfect Steinman. I look forward to hearing the live version!

10!

Have fun.

TRex.

It is a nice song, I wish it were a bit more harder, and by that I mean, less quiet. It has nice lyrics, only I don't know why he would tell buddy to take some more, if it was me I would throw a couple curves,

I would rate it an 8.5/10

9/10 for all versions from the original version from the Musical, to the 1973 to the Jim live to the deadringer (although i'ts perhaps the weakest of the bunch) to the later live versions, it's a great song, with feeling ooozing out of every pore!
