Default The Church of Christ

according to this, Meat's part of a religious group called "The Church of Christ"

Interesting!

Wario - The Church of Christ is not a "religious group" at all. It is a denomination of Christianity - exactly like Baptists, Methodist, Lutherans, and so on...

If Meat Loaf really is a member of The Church of Christ, that would greatly explain why there has been no Christmas album or religious song recorded to date. I grew up in the Church of Christ. They do not believe in allowing musical instruments in the church or playing sacred hymns with musical instruments, as this is a part of "adding to" or "taking away" from "The Word" of God. They also do not celebrate Christmas or Easter, as the belief of the denomination is that every Sunday that the congregation meets to worship is just as important as any other day.

Just because something's on the internet doesn't mean it's so Chris

Meat's a good man, a decent man, a caring man. Exactly what power he believes in, what and how he might choose to exercise that belief is his business, and his alone. He's not an evangelist (well only of Rock 'n Roll) and it strikes me he'd want to keep his beliefs his business. I respect that more than addherents.com does. He has of course happily sung Chrstmas Carols on TV, and I think there are quite a number of rock singers who haven't recorded Christmas albums

One of Meat's beliefs he has shared with us .. what was it he said? "There isn't one bit of truth on the internet at all. Everything is a f***ing lie. Thank you." And quite often he's right.

Religion was founded so people could make millions and kill one another. It's also used as an excuse to cause trouble and start wars.

I'll believe he's a member of "The Church of Christ", when he says he is.

I disagree. Religions were mostly founded to try to give answers for why we are here and what our fate is after death. Man has a huge problem dealing with its own mortality. But yeah indeed I agree with other things you've said and it's ironic in this light that religion is often used as an excuse to kill others.

However I believe you cannot prove there is no God, no matter what kind of scientist you are. There may well be 11 dimensions and more universes out there (some believe an infinite amount), that does not disprove that this was all created by a being who therefore HAS to be more intelligent than any of us and thus could be considered a God and may well be there to great us after our consciousness slips into another state. That's what I believe anyway. I'm more a follower of philosophy than religion I guess.

Theology discussion is a little heavy for General Messages folks.
If we really want to debate religion, take it to Off Topic

As for the threads topic itself, the only response I have is................

Oh
I did notice they list Roy Orbison though

They might want to rethink including Jeffrey Dahmer in their list. He's not the best advertisment

Cool

Christianity was formed to cover for the fact that a 14 year old girl got knocked up and didn't want to get in trouble.

*****Disclaimer*****
I'm very self-educated in most religions and an Atheist so please disregard the above as what it was meant to be, simply a joke. While I don't participate in any religion, I take others' beliefs seriously.

Ok, getting in trouble out of the way:

1) I wouldn't take that list too seriously.
2) This is just my view, others' religions is just like sexual preference, nobody's business but the persons.
3) If it's something someone wants to share, that's also their business.
4) Whatever the religion, Meat is still #1 to me.

I'll step down off my soapbox now.

I would sooner go back to the How Tall Is ML thread

Uhm, to say something related to this particular subject? Looks very amateur & they don't spell Meat's name right.

Lame subject, me thinks. Nothing personal

I take lists like that with a pinch of salt as they cite no official sources for their information and until there is some kind of official source, I'm not going to get too involved in discussing it.

What Meat believes, religious or otherwise, is his business. It's not going to make any difference to the huge amount of respect I have for him.

I'm sure it's more reliable than a roadrunnercrest Wikipedia entry.

Not sure why this is 'interesting'. No matter if it's true or not.

People (especially celebrities) are being judged on how they treat/respect other people.

Personally I think that God is mankind's greatest 'invention'. That doesn't mean I don't respect people who believe. It's your right to believe whatever you want. As long as you stick to the law it shouldn't matter at all.

Nobody knows for sure/has the proof that God does or doesn't exists. It's a debate neither side can win. I don't believe in God but who knows, after I'm dead maybe I change my mind!

As for Meat. Why would I care if he is a member of that Church. It's not like I'm going to enjoy his music any less. Or find his live performances less entertaining. He doesn't bother me with what he believes when I play his CD's. So what he does in his personal life is up to him.

Besides I don't think people or fans should claim the right to discus the private life of an artist. I know it's all very common and tabloids are feeding us with personal information. Personally I think it's none of our damn business. You have the artist -the part that is there to entertain fans- and te person. The last one should deserve every right to keep his private life private. In this World we cross these boundries way to easy. And even more scary. We act like we have the right to do so.

For me Meat makes music that I usually enjoy, movies I dislike and concerts I most of the time love. Everything else in his life is none of my damn business unless the 'artist Meat Loaf' wants to share it with me. That's my opinion

People always associate Tom Cruise with Scientology, so what's the difference when it's a Christian religion or a sect or a cult?

That is to be expected I think. If a celebrity such as Katie Price makes money out of sharing her private life why would people NOT judge her on how strange she is behaving and treating her boyfriends?

I think it's almost impossible to say those two things to a believer unless he/she has respect back for people who don't believe. The problem is from what I gather that many religions, if these are followed closely at least, teach that non believing is wrong thus I don't think full respect could ever be 100% mutual. It's a utopian - happy-clappy picture you paint which simply hasn't worked across most parts of the world if you look at how things are turning out.

Indeed, but that doesn't just go for celebrities does it?

Many believers would argue it's too late by then!

That's not going to happen in a million years. In a sense Meat joining the celebrity apprentice thing means he is happily showing a large part of his private life and/or how he behaves off stage/off camera. So....

I agree that those who court publicity in this way deserve public comment. Those who don't do not imo

So .. he didn't show a large part of his private life imo. He showed on camera how he works when undertaking challenges and simulated business tasks. He showed his emotional attachment to his charity; his personal commitment to learning and developing as a person. It's reasonable to comment on the range of competences and behaviour he displayed doing that. Meat knew that, expected it, and has weathered it with honesty. But it's not reasonable to extend that intrusion and comment into for eg his faith, his home life, his relationships with anyone other than the people he worked with on CA during the series.

He didn't make money for himself by sharing his private life. He worked hard to win money for a charity that supports sick kids by putting himself on the line through a series of simulated business challenges. This does not mean imo that every aspect of his private life should therefore be fair game for intrusion and comment.
