Legacy Recordings is part of Sony, and specializes in reissues and compilations. (The Essential Bruce Springsteen was quite nice, with a third disc of rarities.)

Also, this track listing says that Modern Girl is a live version, so it's not exactly the same.

I think it's pretty likely that's a typo, although nothing would surprise me . At least they've stuck to the original track listing instead of the crappy reissue.

Where did you get that info? Have you had a look at the Live album from 1987 or the Rock 'n' Roll Hero 3-CD set (for example). They say "5:49" as well.

Oh dear god. It looks like another incompetent cretin has put the incorrect track in the middle of another album. What is wrong with these people?

Maybe it's one of your edits? It might be possible that the actual running time of the track differs from what's printed on the cover(s) or stated on the internet. The fact that the song is 5 min and 49 s long in both cases (according to the record company) indicates that it's probably the version we know from the 1987 live album. I doubt that Sony tried something new with this. I thought they'd stop releasing such CDs now that they can put out new Meat Loaf albums... Who needs the umpteenth compilation of that stuff?

I really like "The Essential" series, as you tend to get the big hits plus some cracking lesser known tracks.

It seems to make a great deal of sense to me that Sony would want to issue an updated "Best Of" compilation if Meat has just signed to them.

From a marketer's perspective: Yes.*
From a music fan's perspective: No.

I'd rather like to see a remastered Dead Ringer.

* Who says that you can't earn money with new ideas, by the way? It doesn't seem to differ much from previous compilations.

It's not a new compilation. It's a reissue of a 13 year old compilation with a brand new ~~~~ up on one disc.

That's another album I'd like to see remastered. The five tracks on the Very Best Of mentioned in this thread sound better than on any release of the album so far. The drums seem slightly louder in the mix.

If they'd actually bothered updating it and not just changing the title, I'd agree with you.

Asked to put it up and then told the title will be dropped pending a new Sony release.

Meaning what exactly? Pending a new Sony release of something new? Something recycled? Nothing at all?

But that's the beginning of next year. Having thought about it a bit I do remember Meat saying that Sony would reissue BOOH in time for Crimbo.
