When I first bought the album (circa 1980) I thought the only good songs were "What You See Is What You Get" and "It Takes All Kinds Of People". Of course I didn't then realise the re-release which I had bought did not have "As Heavy As Jesus" which is also a very good track. It was rather a disappointment at the time (the music being so different to Bat) but I now enjoy "Sunshine", "She Waits By The Window" and "Jimmy Bell" just as much. Many of the remaining songs I would describe as very average/mediocre - however in that respect in my opinion not unlike the "Midnight" and "Blind Before I Stop" albums.
I would never claim it was anything but a reasonable effort with some good songs but quite a lot of mediocre and average ones. And when claiming it as a reasonable effort I am talking about the original album not the re-release which omits some of the best tracks and includes some originally rejected and unfinished songs.
I think it is fair to say that at that time Meat had not really found the sort of music at which he could excel - it is all OK and competent enough but nothing special
