Honestly, this sounds like it would make a terrific plot for a slice-of-life biopic, like how Deliver Me From Nowhere focuses on a specific period in Springsteen's life. You juice it up a little (they're always "based on a true story," emphasis mine, after all) and combine it with some of the events beforehand for maximum impact, but it'd make a great movie. Lots of high stakes and drama, and the win at the end when Bat II begins to fly.
