I'm allowed to do more, right? I started the thread, I make-a da rules. :P
I recall at one point hearing that Meat was soliciting simpler, bluesier tracks for the album that eventually became
Hang Cool Teddy Bear (which, incidentally, didn't wind up sounding like that at all). With that -- and previous covers such as "Mercury Blues" -- in mind, I once picked out a few blues tunes, some of which I'd heard in a revue which played Broadway at one point called
Black and Blue, that I thought Meat could really deliver on. They're more conversational than sung; ironically, blues tunes sometimes make the best acting pieces, which this revue proved.
The tunes I picked were:
- "I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl"
- "If You Don't Give Me What I Want (I Gotta Get It Some Other Place)"
- "Get 'Em From the Peanut Man (Hot Nuts)"
- "Don't Tear My Clothes"
- "Do Your Duty"
- "If I Can't Sell It, I'll Keep Sittin' on It"
- "Barbecue"
- "I've Got a Right to Sing the Blues"
- "T'Ain't Nobody's Bizness If I Do"
I think it would've been different than what most people expect from Meat, but it would also have been filled with the kind of performances people have come to expect from him.
