I'm only 30, and even though he had a resurgence in the 90's, his popularity didn't ensue. I don't personally know any other ML fans and at that point I had semi-forgotten about him. He hadn't had a new album in years. Since this was before the internet ruled everything I had no idea what he was doing as Much Music and MuchMoreMusic never covered anything that he did (we don't have VH1 in Canada).
I had no idea that he had done TVBOML or Storytellers. FC was the first that I had heard out of him in years. I knew he did acting, but they all tended to be B-Movies. It was also the first time I had seen him with short hair. When you cut your hair short you tend to look older, so for more me he had lost some of the youthful vigor. Plus I'm a mark for long hair - I never looked at Brad Pitt the same way again after he cut his hair. Same with Metallica and countless other. I only thought David Beckham was cool when he had long hair. After he cut it I didn't give a crap any more (I hate soccer BTW).
I didn't know that he was still performing until I saw an ad for CHSIB on TV and I was interested again. This was in 2003, so I was easily able to get all previous material and information within hours. I was hooked more than ever.
The biggest reason is because "his name is Robert Paulson" is what most people (my age) think of when I bring his name up. I prefer that people know him for his music, not for his comparatively unsuccessful acting career. To me that's like knowing Mick Jagger because of his role in 'Freejack' (which was also an awesome movie BTW

). Plus, the character was a loser and sort of pathetic (though unfortunate). I'm not saying it was bad, as he captured the character perfectly, but I wish that he had another role that he could be best known for as an actor.
In all honesty though, I think it was the hair.
