I haven't read the entire thread, but I have read Meat's post. I believe it is our job to listen and understand the artist by the way he/she presents him/herself through live shows and albums. I do not believe it is the artist's job to simply take requests.
Granted, I haven't been to a live show, but I have seen the set list and read some of the points of view. I look beyond it just being a bunch of songs just merely for a night out. It reveals something about Meat's personality I think. As an actor he doesn't just sing songs but chooses ones that are suitable for what he needs to happen inside his head when he sings - that's the way I've understood it but I'm not nearly as good as Meat so Meat is the best one to understand it.
I know FCOL is a song that many people have indicated in the past that they'd like Meat to perform, and his response (if I remember correctly), is that he finds that particular song difficult to approach from an actor's point of view because he can't find the right situation to perform it in. But he'll be performing it with the MSO so I believe he's done us a favour which he isn't necessarily doing for himself.
At the end of the day, I'm just grateful Meat has decided to grace us with what is one last time for many of us. I hope I will be able to see him IF he comes to New Zealand (I still don't know).
