I think he kept the people he thought would make "good" TV for the show he produces; those who would fight aggressively, play dirty tricks, behave in a way that provoke comment. So much reality TV depends on recruiting amd keeping in some contestants who cause discord and controversy, which is why I don't watch most of it. When Meat was gently but firmly asking Busey to focus because he needed him to move on with what needed to be done right away, and Busey said very challengingly "Or what?", Meat stayed very calm, using completely non-threatening behaviour, and defused a situation that could have escalated into something. I thought he handled it very skillfully, but afterwards Eric described this with evident enjoyment to camera as "Meat and Gary are at each others' throats; whenever Busey does push Meat to confrontation they will love it. As producers imo they want sparks to fly, and will often keep in people who are likely to disrupt the task and provide challenges to those leading them.

To survive on the Apprentice you need to either be good at the task or good TV, and Camp Trump clearly expect you to fight your corner hard in the boardroom. Personally I don't like Star's management style, but she did lead her team to a win, and she's a real game-player who they'll want to keep in. I don't think Warwick provides anything very useful in terms of helping a task along .. but her behaviour and comments provide a source of challenge and upset, which makes for the kind of TV they want. Lisa's biggest problem was imo allowing herself to be pushed into leading before she was ready, and believing that she would get the level of support and co-operation she needed from everyone; and in the boardroom I think her judges sensed she had lost heart.

I do think Trump was really touched, and perhaps surprised, by Meat's genuine and emotional reaction. I suspect they wanted a "big character" .. they got a man with a big heart. He's also the kind of focused, bright, hard-working person who will throw himself into the task without banging his own drum, who's generally liked, and is like a rock in any team in these shows. That's a far more important contribution than hoping he'll get riled by someone; I think that's what we'll see week after week
