This was the result of a social event, a considerable ammount of drink, a gulable reporter who doesn't always check his sources, and a mlukfc staff member who thought i'd be a bit of a laugh to see how much he could lead this guy on for.
A lot of other reporters picked up the story and ran it without checking it too.
I think it's a bit of a clue that a TEXAN said he would be "chuffed" to get a role.
I don't think "chuffed" is a common slang term in the lone star state
