We have this stupid show, too, and yes it's ususally a lazy, preferably fat and unemployed woman swapped with a hardworking, neat one.
I think these shows are scripted. In one case, the woman who was the bone-idle one used to say "I don't know how to cook and do the laundry because that's all done by my husband". A few months later you could see the same family in another show and suddenly it was the wife who was busy keeping the apartment clean, constantly complaining about her lazy husband.
The last show I watched I actually did not want to watch at first because I don't like the host. I was about to change channels when I realized that it was about the village I grew up in. Brought back some memories.
