I think it's mostly because it's the easiest way to make sure people buy both products.
If the CD was the soundtrack of the DVD to the letter, a lot of people wouldn't bother buying the CD (or could even copy the soundtrack and make their own CD).
By cutting a couple of songs from the CD and cutting a different couple from the DVD, you get to have two different products from a limited ammout of material. |
