 I thought that using sausages as weapons was a more Germanic past time 
The Sausage Duel.
19th century chancellor Otto Von Bismarck, was so offended by Rudolf Virchow, a physician and politician, that he ordered his seconds to arrange a duel.
Traditionally the challenged has the choice of weapons, but this was of no concern to Bismarck, an accomplished duelist with both sword and pistol.
Virshow, however, chose a duel to the death with bangers   .
Two sausages were prepared, one laced with deadly poison, the other, some finger licking Bockwurst.
He challenged Bismarck to eat one of the sausages and he himself would eat the other.
Bismarck refused in a fury and called the whole thing off .
