I'm afraid the age where artist had any king of longevity is gone
(which in one way is a good thing, imagine listening to Hearsay for the next 40 years

But I blame TV shows like The X Factor and Pop Idol (more like Bone Idol).
The record guys have worked out, in the world of pop, that NOTHING sells like a debute album.
So why give anyone a follow up album when it's much better to just take another act out of the cloning machine and make a packet out of it before getting rid.
It's "disposable music"

Single serving meal.
Single serving toiletries.
Single serving friend.
Single serving pop act.
