BBC News - what ya think?

Don't know if anyone else saw this but, this moring I was watching the news on BBC One - 8am onwards and they were talking about the new Wembley Arena and how it is now finished - after taking 6 1/2 years to complete!!

They were thenb going on to say, it isn't just football thats just being held here - concerts too with the first concert on 9 June being George Micheal.

-- Corrent me if I am wrong, but isn't Meat the first Wembley Arena Concert??? He is going their in May - right???

I think the news team have got the wrong info, and that to me, this could be an extra bit of publication for Meat's new tour.

(sorry If I sound a bit mad, but they are wrong - Meat is before George Micheal, isn't he??)

What do you all think about this?
Ross

RadioMaster 10 Mar 2007 12:10

maybe there are other concert prior to George Michael too?
Or maybe they just picked the wrong date and GM is in April or so?

AndyK 10 Mar 2007 12:10

They were talking about Wembley Stadium Ross, not Wembley Arena.

The Stadium is the outdoor venue where the FA Cup Final is held and where concerts like the original Live Aid were... the Arena is the indoor concert venue.

Meat is playing at the Arena, George Michael is the first musical act to play a concert at the Stadium.

RadioMaster 10 Mar 2007 12:14

man, that´s confusing....
so what we´re going to see is indoor, right?
was already excited to see a ML stadium concert, ah well...

Does that mean these are two different buildings? or is there just an indoor and an outdoor area?
And in which of them are the usual football matches placed?

AndyK 10 Mar 2007 12:16

Yes Meat's shows are in the indoor arena, which is about 100 yards from the outdoor stadium where the usual football matches take place ...

meatloaf-unofficial 10 Mar 2007 12:25

thanks for that - would of been nice for both fans and Meat to perform outdoor at the new arena - oh well :-)

Thanks AndyK for explaining - confusing or what!

allrevvedup 10 Mar 2007 12:26

the indoor arena is a good venue, i saw ac/dc there in 1996, was a blast

djfierce 10 Mar 2007 17:52

i personally would hate to see Meat at the Stadium, much too big, i like the arena, doesnt really matter where you are you still have a fair view. And it's purpose built for concerts etc.. meaning sound is better

RadioMaster 10 Mar 2007 19:33

doesnt have to. Especially in our area here we´ve got many concert halls with a terrible sound.

djfierce 10 Mar 2007 19:43

fair enough but the sound is good at the arena ;)

AndyK 10 Mar 2007 21:41

Oh god no! :s, Wembley Arena is one of the worst venues I've been to for sound IMO, unless the recent revamp has sorted the acoustics out, I really don't rate it at all, give me Sheffield or Newcastle anyday!

Hypnobabe 10 Mar 2007 22:14

I saw Toploader and Bon Jovi at the Stadium, last concert before they tore it down, and the sound was great there... And it wasn't as if I had a fabulous seat either...

Jayd 10 Mar 2007 22:28

May not see anything at Wembley stadium yet, until all safety checks are sorted. Still touch and go, for FA cup final. And as far as stadium concerts go, they are quite ok, very much festival like, great sound. Never been to Wembley arena, so can't really comment on the sound there. :D

 the last time i was there i was right at the very back, i dunno if that made any difference but sound wise it was the best concert (particularly Meat) i had been to. I may have a diferent opinion being muuuucccchhhh closer this time then by the sounds of it

SamCat 10 Mar 2007 23:10

I think the sound there is really good and i've been sat all over the Arena!! They've only revamped the inside bit and not the seating bit as far as i know so it should sound the same as before!!

Depends what you consider to be the back, Andy told me he was at the back and there he was in row 10! :lmao:

To get back on topic.. ;)

I've never been to either Wembley stadium or the arena (I know!!!) but for some reason in my mind I already don't like it - it's one of those places that I've always imagined to be a bit of a shead, a bit grubby...no idea where that's come from, hopefully in May my opinions will change!!

SamCat 11 Mar 2007 16:38

It used to be really grubby but its supposed to be ok now they've done some work on it!! And the stadium looks amazing it was lit up all night last night so i'm glad i dont live that close to it!!!

needmoremeat 13 Mar 2007 15:38

I'm usually confused over the two Wembleys. I know better now, though!

BillyPhatu 20 Mar 2007 00:10

I'd love to see any big artist at Wembley STADIUM. Unfortunately Meat wouldn't nearly sell out the Stadium nowadays, but he would have done when Bat peaked. I'd love to have been born a little earlier and gone to see Queen and Live Aid there.

Don't know whether to grab a couple of the remaining seats for George Michael or not... my Dad really likes him! :|

I saw queen at the old wembly when they were on the "kind of magic" tour
and it was an awsome place to have a concert and the accoustics were v good
