PC games help

I've been after the first The Sims game for a while now, a few places have it for £5 now, only it's for Windows 98 tops, and I've got XP. A guy in the Game shop in Carlisle said if it doens't say it's for XP, not to take the chance buying it in case it doesn't play. However I've just tried a game for Win98 and it played, as did a game for Win95!
Is it worth giving the game a go? It should play, if a 95 game can!

For a fiver you could afford to risk it. If it doesn't work you could sell it on eBay.

If it doesn't like XP, try going into the games exe properties and changing compatability mode to Win98. More often than not, that works. Hope this helps.:-)

OK, thanks for the hints! Except where would the games exe be? Is it on the actual disc when you get this folder open in a window with various options in like setup and information?
Just tried another game I've had since before I even owned a computer and that worked.
Actually found a better deal on The Sims games. Bought 9 of the series for £20 from gamestation website, got the last one!! :D Considering the new Wii games are double that price for one, and the PS3 are even more, that ain't bad!

When you install the program, it will install it somewhere in c:/program files/ [some other directory]. Inside that directory (or even the one inside that) there will be a file called sims.exe or something similar.

OOOHHHHHH!!! I've just scutched one of the kids for reading over my shoulder but he says SIMS 1 DOES work on XP. Apparantly they have it on their homework computer

Kids always know, don't they?!
That's reassuring, anyway!

I thought when it said win 95 and such that it meant it wont work on any system older than that:?
I have many programmes that dont specify XP

I am pretty sure that all games/other software for earlier windows will work on later versions of windows...but not the other way around...Microsoft is known for that...they want you to keep on upgrading your operating system...

You know something I haven't loaded up any of my old sims games on here. Been playing sims on Ps2 now but it should work for xp. Well here you can buy the combo pack with all the games included for 50 bucks. So I think if it didn't work for xp then why would they be selling it in combo packs.

Am looking forward to playing God now!!!!  Mwahahahaha!!!!!!!
So much for the people in Game stores being experts! Could have had this game before Christmas, but then I wouldn't have found the nine games for £20, so it's worked out good!:D
Yeah, it doesn't really make sense for new software to not play stuff from old software, otherwise we'd have about three versions of everything as well as new software!
