88. Bad For Good
This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!! Bad For Good (8) This song is from 1981. I love this song, I really enjoyed the "God speed - speed us away" part what was always missed by Meat Loaf. In 1988 he performed this song in Birmingham and Wien and he missed this part. I am very curious what is the problem with these lines? Jim's version is better because of this but his voice was too week. Brian May is okay, but I think it's not more than a promotional step. His guitar playing doesn't give anything plus to this song. My fav guitar player is Brian May forever but it1s not his best work, but so much better than Heroes from 1987. Meat is not great in this song but it's one of the closest performance to himself! My score: 8 Average: 8.00 |
I have a recording of the 1988 BfG live version (dont know which concert though), and it HAS the god speed section! Meat said somewhere that he thought from the beginning that this was a bad brigde back to the refrain and he still thinks today, so I assume thatīs the reason he left it. The song: I cant really grow excitement about that one, thereīs somehow a lack of poer and emotion, dont ask me why. 7 |
I would give the song 9/10
..........The only problem I have is that there wasn't a monster guitar solo after the 'Let it go!' section. |
Another hmmm...
Think this is very good but could have been better... It's an 8 for me... |
Not bad. 8.5
|
I think it is a good effort. Was always going to be hard to live up to expectation.
8/10 |
When I first heard this track on the CD ( after hearing it live at RAH when, like everything that night, it was fantastic ) I felt it just went on too long. When I finally got into it I've come to love it. It is an old song, and especially at the end it shows it's age, yet it is a very funny song, it is it good to listen to. It's Ok ,but not one of my favorites so 6 1/2 out of 10.

"Bad For Good" is great, but lacking. Where Jim's version had a sense of urgency, and lots of piano, this version plods along but never seems to get going, and lots of Brian May who sounds out of place and barely any piano. It's a good alternative take on the song, but it never reaches it full potential.

Love this one
10/10 |
reasonable song, reasonably done, well worth 5.5 or maybe 6

I think the trouble with this song is that it's been done so long ago by Steinman, and all the Steinman lovers out there are totally biased towards him in regards to this song.
Having become a Meat Loaf fan myself in fairly recent years I considor myself to be able to judge more objectively than some. I think this is one of the best songs on Bat3, the vocals are excellant and it whips along at a cracking pace, the only criticism I would have is that Meat doesn't really put any emotion into the song. It's hard though for me to mark it down because I think it is excellantly done. And when you compare it to Steinmans original version there's no contest really, Steinmans version was better for the emotion and speed, but Meats vocals are and always have been far superior, Steinman sounds like Weird Al. 9 out of 10 |

8/10 for either virsion meats or jims

this song doesn't do it for me.... I thought: wow Brian May, that's gonna be great. To me no.... it's not THAT for me.. 6/10
|
I miss the piano.
I miss the lead guitar. I miss the intro (and hate Brain May's). I like Brian's guitarsolo. I like the chorus (if you can call it a chorus!) "and for just a little while" I like the "for the good"part. All in all the song itselfs is great, production and arrangements are poor. 6/10. I love tho chorus, I give it a 9/10. |
Good song, But jims was much much better 8/10

Best song on album for me, but sometimes doesn't carry as much weight as I thought it would, other times I love it. I would have liked it to have that bit more emotion injected in, although it's still a cracking song. Like the 'for the good of's, particularly the 'one hell of a night's. Production could have been better, but vocally excellent, especially the final 'good' which lasts for ten seconds!
10/10, could have been 11 if had better production and that teensy bit more emotion. |
Heard Jim's. Like this one much better. How much more emotion does anyone want on this track? Love it to pieces. 9/10
|
The song could've been so much more with an awesome Brian May guitar solo in the middle, because of that the song is good not great.
8/10 Pud  |
