Meat Loaf v's Muse - A Rant!!
Well I had to rant somewhere!
Went to a Muse gig t'other night at NEC with the missus (punishment for ML gigs!) and I haven't seen anything like it in my life! Quite simply, the entire thing was full of special effects and backing tracks. I even spotted some mistakes when the lead singer was pretending to play guitar/piano and sing at the same time! It really really pissed me off that I pay good money to see basically one guy singing to a backing track and a 3 others playing basic instruments!!!! Needless to say, I never been to anything but a fully live gig before. If the like of Meat Loaf, Embrace, Snow Patrol etc can manage it, why can't everyone else?!?! I like fully live as little errors, improvisations and acoustic sessions etc is what live gigs are all about! This guy only spoke to the audience ONCE, saying a quick "bye" at the end! Rubbish showmanship. I feel cheated, bring on Meat Loaf gig in May when I don't have to listen to synthesised backing tracks and imitation instrument playing!!!! Fantasic set and lighting though Ok rant over! |
 not much i can add to that

Who are Muse?????????
Or is that the point you're making....... |
I saw Muse in the summer and thought they were excellent.
OK they're no Meat Loaf but then again, they've never tried to be. I've never seen any band or singer who can DO IT like Meat but unless I'm actually watching Meat (or one of the excellent tributre acts that are about;) ) that's not why I'm there. I guess what I'm saying is I like different bands for different reasons.:-) |

its a shame that the gig was not very aMUSEing, unfortunaly some acts are like that, what i like about meat is he puts 100% effort in every time. and its all live the way it should be.

Aha, explains why I've never heard of them either! :lmao: |
I saw them at a festival over here a couple of years ago and they bored me to tears...a wannabe radiohead group, and i like radiohead
|
One of my friends is going to see them on Sunday. I warned her about this!
|
ok if they can record it, then they should be able to perform it.
What do these groups have to hide? Unfortunately fans seem to settle for much less these days. |

The Embrace singer has all of his vocals go through an auto tune from the mixing desk. its basically a big mixing desk with a pro tools rig built into it so he can never hit a bum not. As for Muse, I am friends with Morgan (there live keyboard player) and i know that Matt plays all his parts live and the backing tracks are just sound effects and that type of stuff. I would have to say that muse are one of the best bands live i have ever seen. (second to the loaf of course) Roll on Wembley next week :-) |

someone or synthesize something (remenber the 80's), when playing live you have to use the recordings. I don't disagree with your sentiments Timbo, there are bands I've seen live that didn't impress :( but I compare no-one to Meat cause no-one can compare!:-) |
Hey Timbo, I love your Avator. Where did you get it? It's cute:roll:

Nomatter if the show is good or bad its still good to go to shows and see how they compare to Meat, lots of shows are different and enjoyable. My friend saw Muse and liked them, personally i dont like their music at all. Going to different shows makes you see different things and consider other things - for example what does Meat Loaf need a musical director for when Bruce Springsteen directed 17 of them himself on stage in a three hour concert with 22 songs and a different setlist every night. What exacly is a musical director and why does Meat seem to be the only artist with one? Sometimes seeing other shows makes you wonder down other paths.
|
i dont think meat is the only one with a musical director. He may be the only one willing to admit it though
