56. Lost Boys And Golden Girls

This is the START OUT OF HELL & ARRIVE TO HEAVEN topic.
Let's Go to Rock 'n' Roll!!!!!!!

Lost Boys And Golden Girls (9)

The story is simple but I don't understand very well. The melody compensates for it. I think this is Heaven Can Wait from Bat Out Of Hell. Meat's version is much better than Jim's version because Jim's voice is groaning there. Very slow and angelic. I could make to take after Fly by Céline Dion! Very good but I miss (like always) the orchestra...
Live version? I have got only one from Vienna and that is too short! I don't know...

My score: 9

Average: 8.61 (120.5/14)

A very good song with a deeper meaning! The quote "We Never Are This Young As We Are Right Now" is amazing and so true!

Good music! I like the live version from Birmingham, it's amazing!

My Score: 8/9

MeatBall 02 Mar 2003 10:26

I love this song!

10/10
:D

Garrett 02 Mar 2003 13:38

Very simple lyrics, but an amazing song!

9/10

The Flying Mouse 12 Mar 2003 17:20

 Beautiful song.
Very simple music and lyrics, but very effective.
That chorus begining "We gotta be fast" is a killer.Major goosebumps and chills.
9/10 Running for home.

P.S. I've just listened to this song three times, and now my arms are freezing 8O .I ain't kidding.
Powerful stuff.

Quigmo 17 Sep 2003 11:59

Yep. I have to say a "beautiful song". I love it. Another of those BFG songs that was in desperate need of the voice. And when it happened it was magic.
10/10

RSG 21 Sep 2003 16:22

If I had to pick the weak one on the album, this I would say is it. Don't get me wrong, I like the song, but I think Meat could have gone more powerful with it, like he did with For Crying Out Loud, or some what similar. But all in all, I like this song,

I would give it my rating of ............. 8\10

Bigmomma 21 Sep 2003 22:18

on of my favourites especially when im feeling fed up.

tis a good song 8/10 :)

Bart 22 Sep 2003 09:36

hmmm. this is the only song where i like Jim's version more than Meats.
Except the Lost Boys Tour live version '88 from Birmingham is magnificent.

Jim's: 8
meat's: 7
'88: 8.

9/10 Enough said - almost brilliant

PanicLord 23 Sep 2003 23:09

I think this is a great song, although the fast version in the middle of Stark Raving Love is my favourite.

Needless to say, Meat sings it about 50 times better than Jim.

I agree with RSG, it could do with a bit more power to it, a more dramatic tone like FCOL.

Anyway, it is still a fantastic song, and quite uplifting, so I reckon 8.5 out of 10 is about right.

This one has really grown on me in the last couple of weeks - and i really do like it.

8/10

Frying Pan 11 Oct 2003 16:54

I like this one, simple piano melody but great. Think meat's version shades the original. Any chance of anyone posting a clip of that Birmingham 88 version?.

8/10

This song reminds me of a childhood lost. Whenever I hear it all I can think about is those missed chances and crazy days as a young lad, usually mis-spent around my old friend Kieran's house. Ah, it warms the soul.

10/10

LostSoul 28 Dec 2003 18:01

I love the part "We'll never be as young as we are right now"... line that Jim (obviouly) likes to use more than once... i.e. "A Kiss..."!

There's always a "Heaven Can Wait"- song on (almost) every Meat's albums... on Bat II that's "Lost Boys and Golden Girls"!

That's the song that inspired me my 94 (!) nickname since: LostSoul...
I like it!

9/10

edit: indeed Bart... I've heard it since I rated it and changed my mind as well!

Jim's: 8
meat's: 7
'88: 8.

White,

I change this one. This song is brilliant. I must have lost my mind when i wrote this.

Jim's: 9:
Meat's: 9
'88: 10.

And indeed: "we gotta be fast"-part is magnificent.

AndyK 05 Jan 2004 20:44

A truly beautiful song whenever you hear it, whichever of the Meat or Jim versions you hear it's a 9.75/10!!

rockfenris2005 06 Jan 2004 07:41

This is the Lost Boy's anthem for Neverland. It's a beautiful song. 10/10.

rockfenris2005 06 Jan 2004 07:42

Oh yes, and I would love if Steve Barton had sung this

Jackoutofhell 17 May 2006 04:15

10/10!

Much better than When Angels Sing, if I do say so myself.

ChloeLee88 17 May 2006 19:31

I love this song...the melodic writing, the lyrics and the superb vocals by Meat, it's such a beautiful song i give in a very strong 9/10!!!
Love it, especially the line....'and we'll never be as young as we are right now, running away and running for home....RUNNING FOR HOOOOOME!!!'

What was I thinking than, :O I guess I was so caught up with the Bat pace lol.

This song is amazing, definetly deserves a 9\10.
Rock on Meat & Jim!

Paul191 23 May 2006 15:17

I love this song to bits, one of his best i think. I sometimes just have it on repeat when i'm bored.

10/10

samurai7 15 Jun 2006 20:13

Why does everyone insist that JIM sang the original?!? It was RORY DODD!!!

I love BOTH versions, but sadly have never heard the song performed live. It has all the Steinman ingredients - near-cliché-lyric, epic key-change, and best of all BASEBALL PUNS!!! (Running for home...)

A great song. Both versions get a 10 from me!

:D
