Storytellers
Hi,
I bought myself the storytellers DVD and just want to post my opinion. I think itīs very interessting, you see his site as a funny and entertaining guy. Most of all, when he explains "that" and of course the thing with Paradise. I heard it with stereo headphones, but i think that the sound is not so very good mixed. I was like Meat is just on the left ear and the audience just on the right. I will listen to it with my Dolby-headphones soon. Is there a difference? When I bought it on amazon, i read that the length is about 50 minutes, i think that is wrong. I didnīt look at the clock, but i think it was something about 2 hours (And i dont mean that there was written, that there are 54 minutes of unsend material). The only one thing that is not good is that he doesnīt sing the full songs. With some he did, but not with all. Like with all revved up, there he sang just the first lines. I was very sceptic about it before i bought it, but now i see that i was wrong. Itīs a very great thing! Somewhere on this forum i wrote that i whouldnīt buy it, because itīs not a real concert, for that post i am sorry. Itīs great! To everyone who hasnīt got it already: BUY IT! NOW!!! Itīs really worth the cost! What do you think about it? R. |
I only have a CD... I found myself being very hesitant about visual material - somehow I am more into listening...but ML comes through as very human and often hysterically funny even on the CD...but then just by his book you can tell that he is funny...I was crying from laughter sometimes when I read the book.

I love the Storyteller's DVD.....Must say it is on par with MSO DVD. Meat, like you say comes across as a very genuine and real down to earth guy and the way he interacts with the audience and with the band members is great.....Just a real great show.
I dont have the CD. Is it the same track listing as on the DVD?? |

In answer to your question .. no, the track listing is different on the CD. Here's the list : CD All Revved Up With No Place To Go (Intro) Life Is A Lemon And I Want My Money Back (not on DVD) Story You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth Story I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) Lawyers, Guns & Money Story More Than You Deserve Story Heaven Can Wait Story Paradise By The Dashboard Light Story Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad Bat Out Of Hell Bonus Track : Is Noth Sacred (Single Version) The stories are slightly different and the songs : Life Is A Lemon and Lawyers, Guns & Money aren't on the DVD. However, the songs : Rock 'N Roll Dreams and A Kiss Is A Terrible Thing To Waste are on the DVD but not the CD :-) And on the DVD, Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad is in the beginning, whereas on the CD it's near the end. The CD and DVD really compliment each other. Hope this helps Vicki |
I love the version on Hot Summer Night on the CD. It's about my all time favourite version of that, I reckon, maybe because there is the mental images to go with it (that gorgeous smile in "My soul is flying high above the ground", for example), plus the ad libs....

I have the dvd and I love it!!! :))

I don't think Storytellers suits him- it doesn't seem rite Meat just sitting there for the whole concert; it's far better when he expresses himself properly and is all over the stage.

To me Storytellers is more like a documentary, not a concert, and it's great just to sit back and relax, watching / listening to Meat tell the stories about the songs. Meat's got a great sense of humor, and it really shines through during the entire show. If I want to watch a true Meat Loaf concert, I watch the MSO DVD :-) The two DVDs compliment each other perfectly. Vicki |

It is also a real shame that Rock N Roll Dreams isnt on the CD because it is an absolutely great version on the DVD one of my faves on there, and a shame about Kiss too, thats a good version on there too. But Paradise and the chemistry between Meat and Patti is ace!! I bet LIAL is good too.....Thanks Ross :D |

I have both the DVD and the CD of this concert.
I think they are amazing....i also think they show the versitility of Meat, this DVD and the MSO DVD are both completely different but yet they are both amazing! I love it!!!! Chloe |

I can't find it in the stores around here either ... but I think it's still available through Amazon.com. And I've seen it come up on Ebay every once in a while.. good luck !! Right you are about Rock N Roll Dreams, Kiss and Paradise :)) LIAL is excellent .... it's a shame it was only on the CD and not on the DVD. I remember Meat saying in an interview that they filmed for over 3 hours, and the only reason they stopped was because they ran out of film  I would have loved to have seen the complete unedited version of the show :)) Vicki |

And yes, Meat did film for over three hours that night, but from what I recall it was mostly due to the Stories being told, there weren't too many extra songs performed on Storytellers night. Both tapings were pretty cool, but I am kind of partial to the Hard Rock taping as it was mostly performances and not too much chatting. Storytellers was also neat to watch in the making, especially soundcheck (we were in the studio earlier then expected) hearing Kasim and Patti sing lead on some of the songs but the atmosphere was different due to the tons of talking and stopping (looking for more film :) !). Take care! Jen S. |

Thanks for the info Jen :)) Vicki |
I think the ST and the MSO DVDs are both great, but in very different ways. somewhere i wrote that it ainīt a concert DVD for me, but i think it is unimportant how the both DVDs are classified as long as we enjoy watching them.

4 days until it arrives? |
Nope, four days until they send it... along with the MSO dvd (at least I already have the CD...) and Fight Club
|
I know that!
Iīm waiting for live around the world and my new DVD-player... (actually both should arrive today,... but it didnt!) |
CD Rocks, Some fine recordings. I enjoy both much equally. The version of 'Took The Words' is insane. I love Pearl's and Patti's voice together.

I have both the cd and the dvd.
Having watched the dvd the main thing that comes across is how relaxed he looks, sitting down and performing, that is until he does Bat. I think Bat is probably my favourite song to watch on the dvd, not in terms of the quality of it but more of the intensity of Meat as he performs, the way he tries to psyche himself up for the last three 'Like a bat out of hell''s. He does a great version of 'A Kiss is a terrible thing to waste' i'm just sorry it wasn't on the cd, same goes for 'Rock n roll dreams come through' It wouldve also been great to have seen VH1's original idea of having Steinman and Meat Loaf together performing and giving the background into each song. |
