Did I say that
Hi guys, I was just wondering, does anyone know why DIST was never released as a single in the UK? The only reason i'm asking is because it was such a good song that it may have performed quite well in the charts just like it did in Germany.
|
I might be wrong, but I think it is because Meat's label really seriously screwed up and were 100% CRAP! I think Meat is suing one of the labels for the incompetent mismanagement and lack of promotion.
Might be something else too of course... |
I agree Paul191. Here in Western Australia the only promotion it got was when he was on tour. When you make a request from the radio stations they say "sorry we dont have any copies of that album".:( All we get are the same few songs played - BOOH, Heaven Can Wait, Paradise, Took the Words and Anything for Love. One day the local station had Meat as their artist of the day, they played one song each hour. The only other songs that I heard from any of his albums other that Bat I or Bat II was I'd Lie For You and Dead Ringer. Its a great shame that people who dont surf the net or come to these sites have no idea what other great Meat songs are out there.:(
Have a great day everyone.:D Bye For Now Trudy |

anyone fortunate enough with an extra couple bucks could by a copy of CHSIB and go down to their radio station and demand them to play a few, Testify Is a splendid song to wake up too. when i bought CHSIB, I must have bought the first copy in the store ;) the week after buddy had it playing first to end looping and he told me since I bought it they had to re order 3x
people orderring and buying... lucky for me i got all 4 posters... i gave one too my bro, one to an ex, one on my wall and another i have no clue :S |
I live in Australia. On my 18th birthday I went to a restaurant and they hd the radio station on. Not only did they play the "new single" Man of Steel but proceeded to play Did I Say That, Couldn't Have Said it Better and Testify in THAT order! So it was big in Melbourne, at least
|
Once I heard them playing Paradise By The Dashboard Light on the radio and it shocked the heck out of me  Usually they only play Anything For Love .. but I haven't heard it lately .:(
On April 15, 2004 (I remember because it was tax day here in the U.S.), I stopped at the post office. They had a tent set up and were doing a big promotion with one of the local radio stations ... I walked over to the tent, and asked the girl why they weren't playing CHSIB on the radio. She told me I had to talk to her boss (the station manager) and called him over ... I asked him why they didn't play Meat Loaf's music on their station. He gave me a funny look, and when I told him about CHSIB, he said he had no idea that Meat had a new album out, and would check into it right away. Sadly they never played any of the songs from the CD .... at least not that I'm aware of anyway. :( Vicki |
Ohio got plenty of airplay for the song Couldn't Have Said It Better. One of the many reasons it is good to be in the MidWest.
With all the love there ever was.... David |
Stupid radio stations, they fear Meat Loaf songs because they think they're
too long but they don't realise how many Meat fans there are AND how many people actually just like listening to his songs! They only play Meat Loaf in Scotland on the radio when the DJ needs a pee! |
I had the most joyous experience the other morning in the wee hours. The radio actually played the *full* BOOH, not the radio version, but the full version. It was 4am, I was driving through the hills with the lights of the city twinkling and spread out below me....AWESOME!!!!
Back on topic. We in Adelaide heard CHSIB maybe 20 times on the radio, and that was it. None of my local stores had heard of the album, I had to get the most obscure CD shop to order it in. Stupid people. |
TREX has nailed the original question - bad management!
Why don't they understand how to treat a Meat Loaf album? |
It was everywhere here. There were stacks and stacks of copies in the latest release section
|
I didn't see the album in the shops for ages after it was released most other place and I eventually ended up buying it secondhand in a music store. Lo and behold, a couple of weeks later, nearly every music shop stocked it
Pud  |

Nowhere you want to be: Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
It's full of bloody Victorians. ;) |

Nowhere I want to be? You have the best concerts, DVD recordings with the MSO, and huge piles of Meat's CDs in the shops. Plus its Australia! I would love to be in Australia! |
Good person!
Avoiding Victoria is recommended... ;) |
At the risk of going a little off topic, why?
|
Because it's full of Victorians.
Theiving Mexicans they are. :D (All in jest, Victoria and South Australia have a really solid sibling rivalry thing happening... they hate us, we hate them, but God forbid any non-aussies pick on either :D) |

I have been warned... thanks for the explanation... Just to remind people I have been on topic at some point in this thread, I thought I'd better put some more appropriate comments in too... ;) Quote:

At NEC 2003 Did I say That was one of the highlight. After the amazing version of Frying Pan, it was a total contrast and he sang it perfectly.
As a recording, I listen to it, but I find it an awkward song, the start and the end don't seem to be right together, and it would have been difficult to edit it to say 3 1/2 mins to produce an effective single. Man of Steel was the wrong song to launch as a single ( UK 2003 ) and it didn't do well at all, Meat was ill anyway and couldn't have promoted it. Testify or Love you out loud would have been much better choices. Meat Loaf is famed for long, theatrical music, BOOH, AFL, ILFY, CHSIB, epic love between man and woman songs. He's a big man who sings big songs. Maybe chasing chart single successes isn't where his appeal lies. |
Did I say That is my favourite song from CHSIB. I think it would have been great, had the video been a follow up to I'd lie for you. I think Anything for love, Lie for you and DIST are similar style songs.
|
Totally agree Musicman - Def. the best!! I don't actually care for the video, I thought the edits were horrible and the video itself wasn't that great.
Sorry feeling rather opinionated today Lol Ross |
I also think DIST is the best song from CHSIB, followed by CHSIB and MOS. I reckon if the record company had started fresh in the UK after the disastrous lack of marketing of CHSIB with DIST it could have been a big hit.
Too late now... unless they do it to get Meat's name back in the public eye prior to Bat3?? |
The promotion here was just pathetic! they better do good for bat 3.
