Is it true??

My dad said to me that women tend to like song for the lyrics where as guys tend to like songs because of the music....

....is this true??

Do you like a song for it's music or for it's lyrics first??

I have to say I always enjoy songs more through the lyrics

How the devil should I know???? I either like it, or I don't!!

But do you really get into the words, or just like the song for the music??

I think a really good song has both but if i had to pick i would say lyrics with ok music rather than ok lyrics with good music (if any of that makes sense :tard:)

Makes sense ^_^!

I have to admire the music before I can get into the lyrics. Not that lyrics aren't important, they are. Good lyrics can help make a great song what it is but they can't make a great song in and of themself.

I have too much music to concentrate on the individual lyrical styles of every lyricist, but it's nice once in a while to delve deeper and find something very special.
That said I'm not a big fan of 'storytelling' lyrics which many poor lyricists seem to fall back on to cover their asses.

But melody comes first, if the tune isn't moving then I doubt the lyrics will help. However, lyrics correctly juxtaposed to the music can provide wonderful effects.

Anyway, the whole male/female devide is cack. You likes what you likes.

I think Rob has it give-or-take a few personal differences.

A good musical score will make me listen to it, and good lyrics will keep me listening to it after a few plays. Nothing makes me like a song more than a good bit of humour; crude, rude, wierd, corny, daft, funky. You name it, humour is the way with all songs! It's what makes me smile still when I listen to Jim Steinman songs - even in the most serious of songs, you still get the "all the signs along the road say "caution, kids at play"". Subtle humour :P

I have a habit of going off topic quick, sorry! :D . Other friends I have don't give a monkey about lyrics though....

For me, I hear the music first. If it sounds good, then I'll listen to it in more detail. I think it's a lot harder to pick up good lyrics, you have to concentrate on the words more.

Personally, I go for the lyrics first.

Definately not the case for me, it tends to be a great piano or percussion part that gets me - the lyrics can be terrible but whack some good drums in there....!
